A clean, functioning drain and sewer system uses gravity and water to move waste away from the home. Drain and sewer systems are vulnerable to blockage and damage due to clogs, soil movement, tree root growth, and cracking. If you find yourself with a blocked system, it’s time to call a drain or sewer cleaning and repair specialist.
A blocked drain can have a number of causes, the most common of which are accumulations of hair, food, foreign objects, grease, or a mineral buildup known as limescale. Chronic clogs can also be caused by improper drain construction or poor pipe ventilation. Sewer line issues are usually caused by the growth of a tree root into the main sewer line or by a collapsed pipe. It’s important to be vigilant for any signs of a sewer problem and to make repairs before complications arise—slow drainage or gurgling sounds in the sink or toilet, water pooling around the basement floor drainage, or waste backing up into the bathtub are all signs of a possible sewer problem. Soggy places in a yard and collapsed sections of a sidewalk or driveway may also indicate sewer issues and should be investigated as soon as possible.
When dealing with drain and sewer issues, if plungers or chemical drain cleaners won’t do the job, it’s best to hire a plumber with the experience and knowledge to tackle the problem.
