In honor of Hunger Action Month (September), the Best Pick Reports team hit the Westside last weekend to volunteer at the Atlanta Community Food Bank. The ACFB’s mission is to fight hunger by engaging, educating, and empowering our community.
About the Atlanta Community Food Bank
“Founded in 1979, ACFB procures more than 60 million pounds of food and groceries each year and distributes it to more than 600 nonprofit partner agencies serving families and individuals in 29 metro Atlanta and north Georgia counties.”
Some more numbers:
We sorted 14,409 pounds of potatoes, which translates to 12,007 meals.
Last year’s day of cabbage sorting was fun and all, but as vegetables go, we’d give spuds an A rating for sortability, and that is based on research and recommendations by our neighbors 😉 These spuds were donated by a farm in South Carolina.
This infographic explains the product flow of the food that is donated, sorted—where we came in—and distributed to Atlanta-area families in need.
Plant a Row
Is gardening one of your favorite activities? Want to give back? Check out Plant a Row: “Plant an extra row of veggies and donate them to those in need within your community.”
