UPDATE 3: I got a quote from Aztec Solar to do the same service and they are charging $1,305 (compared to the $3,753 from Sierra Pacific). So I will be having Aztec Solar do the work. — I have no affiliation or relationship of any kind with either company. UPDATE 2: The quote for removal and reinstallation of my existing system was $3,753 if I sign up for a “Platinum Solar” maintenance plan, or $4,170 without it. UPDATE 1: A second service tech came out to verify that there were broken tiles. He was friendlier than the first. He went up in my attic again and spent ten minutes telling me there was no way water was coming in from under the broken tiles, while there was a bucket of water collected from the leak beneath the broken tiles. And on his way out of the attic made a giant mess of insulation in the house. After he finished his inspection he called to assure me they were going to take care of me by offering me 10% off the service. I’m waiting on the updated quote, I’ll update once I have it. ORIGINAL POST: Completely ripped off. I had Sierra Pacific install a pool solar system 3 years ago. The install was mostly OK — they broke a couple dozen roof tiles, but I had extras on hand for them to use as replacements. Now my roof is leaking directly beneath the panels. After a third-party roofer told me there were a bunch of broken tiles under the panels, I had Sierra Pacific come out for an inspection. Don't even get me started on the process of getting someone out here. Actually — let's get started. It took 30 minutes to get through their AI-automated phone system just to reach someone in a call center, who wasn't able to do anything but book an inspection 4 weeks out. And the cost for someone to just show up and take a look? $294. When the inspector arrived, he immediately told me, "those panels are terrible, the manufacturer went out of business so the warranty is void." (YOU INSTALLED THEM.) Rather than remove the panels to fix the roof, he recommended I throw out the old system and buy an entirely new one — JUST 3 YEARS AFTER SIERRA PACIFIC INSTALLED IT. At first he didn't believe the install could've caused the leaks, but after going up into our attic and seeing it for himself, he went back to the roof and found massive breaks in the tiles under the panels. My theory: during the original install, when they broke all those tiles, they only replaced the ones that would be visible after the panels went on, and didn't bother with the ones hidden underneath. He quoted me $400 to "glue" the broken tiles back together, or $5,000 to remove and reinstall the panels so I can actually do a proper roof repair or replacement. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet, but I asked for the number of a manager I could talk to so I can make sure the process goes smoothly if I move forward. He said he couldn't give out a manager's number. I told him I'm not paying the inspection fee unless I have an actual point of contact at Sierra Pacific — but I'd happily pay if I had one. (He wasn't able to give me a phone number of anyone else at the company I could talk to.) Oh, and two of the brackets holding up the system are broken. Not covered under warranty. Only 3 years since install.

Christian and Anthony were great getting the work done. And fast work. As I had already knew where my solar pool heating leaks were as it was obvious with the salt and calcium deposits as it leaked out. They professionally confirmed the issues. We had discussed the more fatal header leak of one of the panels and the solution was to remove it completely and reduce the overall system to 1 less panel. There still exists an option to add a fresh panel back into the system later. We also discussed various other options given the cause of the damage to my 4 year old system was the wind rattling the panels up and down on my tile roof despite the current straps used. The bottom of my panels rest just slightly below a tile line and as the panels vibrate in the wind, they scrape against the edge of the tiles causing wear and leakage. Christian added in some rubber padding along the lower couplers to attempt to raise the headers off the tile edge. I may still add silicone trivets to further buffer this installation design flaw. Pictures included of the leak and the scraping damage to the bottom header on the panel that was removed.

We had a whole house fan installed in one day. Talked to salesman Jaime on Thursday, and because there was a gap in the schedule, they were able to send out Garet and Igor bright and early the next day. They were both very courteous and careful during the installation, and helped us decide on a location in the hallway that would work to install the fan. They finished in 1.5 hours, cleaned up, and Garet demonstrated how to use the remote to turn the fan on. It was amazingly quiet, and had great airflow! We are very happy with the quality of the work and these two professional workmen. The cost for the job was in line with another quote we got, and overall seems much higher than I expected, but we got a big discount for being flexible with the scheduling, so they could keep their crews busy. I recommend Sierra Pacific!

I knew my current system wasn't going to hack the Summer months to come so my Wife and I decided to completely overhaul our system and capitalize on the the SMUD rebate being offered to replace our old split system with an electric heat pump system before it gets too hot. After obtaining 3 estimates, we decided to go with Sierra Pacific and were very pleased we did. We also replaced the ducting in our rafters. It was a big two day job but overall a great experience. I got a competitive price, long term warranty on service and parts and great customer service. Special shout out to my technicians Cody & Ace. They were incredibly accommodating, paid great attention to detail and did overall great work. Mason Mash from the plumbing side also came out to help me relight my pilot light on my water heater and was great too. If your home has needs for any services they offer, Sierra Pacific is the way to go!
