“It was positive because of the professionalism, scheduling, quality of the materials—I chose them, but they delivered. They did a remodel for me, and I would grade the overall experience with an A+. They were definitely awesome all the way around.”

“It was positive because of the good quality of work. They did a bathroom remodel for me. I don't remember exactly how long it took them, but it took a little bit longer than I thought. I would grade the overall experience with an A. It's been over a year.”

“It was positive because they worked well with us, kept everything nice and clean, and pretty much stayed on track. They did two bathroom updates, flooring down our hall, and carpet in the bedrooms for me. I would grade the overall experience with an A+.”

“Overall, positive, but it’s tight now; I'm looking at doing another project, and I can't seem to get anybody to respond to my inquiries. They have done work for me before. The last big job was removing some walls and adding some new ones. The workers were good, and I would grade the overall experience with an A-.”

“It was positive because they were really prompt, flexible, and just easy to work with. They re-textured our ceilings, replaced our gutters, and removed the old backsplash in our kitchen, and other things. The work is all great. I would grade the overall experience with an A+.”

“It was positive because overall it was good; overall, I'm satisfied. They did the bathroom ventilation on both rooms. We also had some improvements in the kitchen, like painting. It was a big project, and I would grade the overall experience with an A-. The only thing was one of the bathrooms, they installed a new shower, and the company which they had a contract with came over and they used the original frame of that shower. After months, we had an issue with leaking; we were under warranty, so we called them, they came over, and fixed it again. The painting experience—it was OK. One day when they painted there was a lack of communication. They missed some part so I went there, and we missed a one-week delay because of the miscommunication with the contractor which they had. Then I stayed with them a little bit to force them which area I needed to paint. Overall, their quality in plumbing and their other service was perfect, though.”

“It was negative because my bathroom remodel took over six months, and then they ended up not finishing it. I had to hire somebody else. They, in fact, tricked me into doing a change order for some of the unfinished work, and then they said they didn't want to do the change order work. I would grade the overall experience with a D. In terms of quality of work—I actually had to have another contractor to redo a lot of it.”

“It was a positive experience because they were prompt. They came back one more time, and they were good. They did one side of the house, they did the bathroom, and they cut two of the bedrooms—floored and painted. I am very happy with them, and I would use them next time too. I would grade the overall experience with an A.”

“The first time we had them do some remodeling, we had a really wonderful experience with them; the second time, not so much. We don't feel like we got the service we did the first time. The second time, they did a utility bathroom modeling and some painting and laid a wood floor. I would grade the overall experience with a B.”

“They were great. We had our kitchen renovated. Tony was great. Tony was the head contractor, and he did a great job. I liked that they pretty much tried to stay neat while they were working, even though they had to do some demolition and the backsplash. Also, the painters covered up, and made sure that they ventilated the room because some of the stuff required it. They remodeled my kitchen over a year ago, and I would grade the overall experience with an A+.”

“They are not still a Best Pick Reports company; the reason is that their project manager did not manage the job at all. I had to email the guy all the time constantly asking him ‘Is someone coming out today? Who's coming out?’ They were not good with the communication, but once I asked him, he would say, 'Let me contact such-and-such.' Here's an example: when something was being installed, the project manager knew he needed to cut the window ledge over the stovetop wider than the old one, because we were putting on trim around the window that currently did not have any. It was on my paperwork that was stuck on the wall in the kitchen, and I reminded him. He said, ‘I will tell them.' They did not cut it, though—it took way after our project was over for the granite people to come back and fix it. I had already put the backsplash up, but I had wanted to get it done before the backsplash. Whenever the vendors or subs would come and work, they would actually tell me that he's not very organized. They would actually talk to me about him; they would say, 'Yeah, he's not very organized. I wish he was better.' The guy was a super nice man— any time I asked him anything, he would have an answer, and he would tell me, or say, ‘Let me find that answer, and I'll get back with you.’ But the thing was, the job went twice as long as what they had said it would be, I felt like from day one. I had hardwood floors, and I had told them upfront because they were new. I said, 'They have to be protected the whole entire time.' The very first day they had the plumbers out to disconnect everything to start demolition, and they did not put anything down. So each vendor, when they would finish, they would come in and not do anything, and I would have to ask them, ‘You have to put something down on the floor.’ Then they would pick all their stuff up because they were done, but the next vendor that came, I would have to ask them to do the same thing. I felt like DFW at the very beginning whoever they have would come and cover the floor for the whole entire process—because I had painting done. I had the whole cabinets repainted in the kitchen. They put a tent so the rest of the living could be used, except he didn't communicate and they didn't close off—I think that numerous of times, the good and the bad—one would be, I started at the beginning and met with a ton of people, and the office doesn't know what the onsite people are doing. So, they portray a certain type of service. They are very professional, very up front, very thorough. You tell them everything that you want, but from then on, it's never discussed. I would grade the overall experience with a C. I will never use them again, but I'm not saying that—because I felt that some of the vendors were very professional and very nice, and they should be lucky that they have those people. I would never refer them or use them. I would not recommend them to anyone—not my family, not acquaintances, nothing.”

“It was very good. They worked very closely with us, and they helped us to put together the plan and execute it. They were great. As we went along, the changes that needed to be done were done, and there was no problem. They totally redid the master bathroom for us; we expanded it. They also found some plumbing problems underneath the house, and took care of that. I would grade the overall experience with an A—very good quality. We had an on-site contractor, and he was here almost every day. Whenever something wasn't done to the standards that he felt needed to be done, they were corrected, and there was no problem. There was never a major problem at all. So, it was wonderful. The biggest problem was getting the city to show up for the permits. They never told you when they were going to show up, and if you weren't there then you were going to be fined. But they took care of that also. Punctuality—we always knew who was coming and if there were any questions we could always call the contractor, and he would check and let us know. No problem. Cleanliness—they were always cleaning up right after they finished, even though they knew someone was going to come up the next day and dirty it up for them—but by the end of the day, they cleaned it up. I recommended them to our church because they are looking at redesigning some of the space usage, and I know that when they contacted them, they came out, looked at things, and gave a bid. I have no problem recommending them at all.”

“I liked that they did a good quality work. There were very few delays; they showed up every morning that they were going to. They were very helpful in helping me pick the design and colors—the person at the showroom was very helpful. They were very good at explaining everything they were going to do, and there were really no surprises. They remodeled our kitchen, and refinished our cabinets. They also put quartz countertops in, they redid our floor, they took the wallpaper out, and they painted and textured the walls. I would grade the overall experience with an A. I have recommended them to other people.”

“They were a good company. They did me right, didn't overcharge me, and they followed up. So, I guess I'm pretty satisfied with them, and I also liked that they were courteous and respectful to the property. They worked inside and out, but they were really respectful of all your stuff—you didn't worry about leaving to go to work, and you knew you had your stuff when you got home. They are an honest company. They subcontracted drywall for me; I had to have my foundation repaired and they got me somebody to do that. I would grade the overall experience with an A.”

“Overall, there were some frustrations—but I guess that's typical when you're doing the extensive work that we did. We bought a house and had the interior pretty much completely redone. I liked that they were on time most of the time. I think the biggest thing for me is the salesperson was super nice and very responsive. I think the problem I had most was the attention to detail. We had electricians; we had plumbers; we had painters; we had carpenters—an entire crew working on our house for three months. I would grade the overall experience with a B.”

“They did some remodeling for us at some rental property of ours. They were on time, every time they came out to look at it. We made changes several times, and he was always really good about being there and keeping us informed when we had to order parts and calling us to get us on the schedule. We had a very positive experience. They did trim work around some windows, quite a bit of work around the front door, and installed a new door and new hardware. It was quite a bit of work. I would grade the overall experience with an A.”

“I liked their service. They had a family atmosphere, and teams seemed to get along well. I saw the plumbing team come in, woodwork come in, and you could just see their interaction. “They helped me twice, and were excellent. I liked that they are extremely professional. They might have a little bit of a lead time before they start on your job, as they order material—but once they start on the job, they get it done, and it is just beautiful work. I couldn't ask for anything better. They did remodeling inside my home for the kitchen, floors, paint—everything. I would grade the overall experience with an A+.”

“It was a while ago; I liked that Jason Brown, who was the project manager, was excellent. The work was done very high quality, and it was done not only within a time budget, but within the budget we set. The pricing was moderate, but it was worth it to get it done right. They did some remodeling and some plumbing for us. They replaced three toilets for us, and they added a barn door, framed that out, general remodeling. I would grade the overall experience with an A. I have recommended them.”

Review by

“That was a long time ago. They did awful work; a bunch of rank amateurs. All they are is a shell company that puts all of the work on their subs, and they never show back up to manage. It was a whole debacle for about three weeks. They did restoration, redoing the kitchen—we had a flood—just painting. They couldn't get painters, they couldn't get cabinet people—they couldn't get anybody. I would grade the overall experience with a D. We finally got them to finish up everything, and it was terrible. The quality of work, the first time, was not very good. After they continued fixing it, probably a C. As to recommendation for their services, I told everybody that they were farce.”

“The project manager was horrible. He did not have any attention to detail whatsoever. He tried to tell me on June 15th, after I pointed out some punch list items, that our project was complete, and the specific items that I pointed out had not been done. He also conveniently forgot about a door that they installed incorrectly in my house months prior. One of the issues was about a three-inch section of tile in the water closet of my bathroom. It took them seven attempts in two months to get that tile set correctly so that it matched the rest of the floor. So, they obviously do not hire the quality professionals that they claimed to. Their professionals do not clean up after themselves. The project manager does not come behind every tradesmen and make sure that the work is completed satisfactorily and that they cleaned up after themselves—all things which were promised in our contract. Tried on a number of occasions to argue conversations that had taken place before. Arbitrarily changed the grout colors in our bathroom without contacting us or making us aware that that's what they were doing, after we chose all of our selections in their showroom. After the two-and-half months' delay on completing our project and a new door was installed in the back of my house to replace the first one that they installed incorrectly. They did a horrible job painting the trim, and again, he told me that they were finished. I would never use them again nor would I ever refer them to anybody.”

“I would have to say I liked their willingness to work and keep in contact with me. If I needed a daily update two or three times a day, they were willing to work with that and that really helped me out. It was interior work. I essentially walled off a second room. I turned two rooms into three. They put lights in. They completely took out built-in shelving, walled it out, made an extra closet for me, they redid the floors, they did some retile work, they did recarpeting. It was pretty good. I know they did a fairly quick job. I don't get a lot of work done so I have nothing to compare it to. I'd say they're an A.”

“My experience was absolutely awful. There was a project, it was some odds and ends on a home we purchased. It was supposed to take 3 days to a week and it took 6 months to get everything finally done. They replaced the water heater that was in the home because it was old and needed to be replaced. I specifically asked them, before we hired them, about permits, city permits, knowing we needed them. And they said “we pull all of those,” which they did not do. And then we ended up having a gas leak and needed the city to come out, we got a red tag and our gas was shut off for an extra ten days because they didn't pull the permit. There is just a laundry list of things. Our site manager was terrible. There were projects that we did not want them to do and they did anyway. They ripped down our fence door and started tearing that apart and 'fixing it' when it wasn't anything we had hired them to do. They were good about listening to our complaints and not charging us for things that they didn't do. So I was happy about that. There was electrical work. There was some drywall work. They put in a backsplash in our kitchen. There was some work in two of our bathrooms they did. They replaced and installed a water heater, inappropriately. He flat out told me that they don't usually pull permits on things like that because the chances of them getting caught are so small and they did get caught. They got caught and they had to pay the fine.”

“Every job they've done for me has been bad and their attitude about it is basically that I expect perfection and that's unrealistic. Because I'm a single woman, I think they're trying to bully me into accepting a job that is completely unacceptable. And it makes me very angry because they took a lot of money from me and I'm not getting my money's worth. They created a leak inside my cabinet in my kitchen, and I, the next day is when I saw it because I was going to put new shelf paper on the inside of all my cabinets, and I sent a photograph. They didn't even come to look at it for two weeks, so it kept leaking for two weeks. And by the time they came, I had mold inside my cupboards. And their attitude was, well we didn't cause that; that's from your water filtration system and I'm like, wait a minute. I didn't have a leak before you guys did work on my house, but I do have one now. So, their answer was to basically turn the water off in my kitchen and spray my shelf with some stuff that kills mold, and then they said, 'oh you don't have any mold in there.' I said, 'I have pictures.' Yeah, and so now I cannot even use my cabinets that in kitchen that are near the leak because it smells like mildew. And I don't know if it's, you know, did so much damage from that two weeks of leak that even, not just the shelf that was wet, but whatever else it was touching was affected as well.”

“They did the work. It was OK. The guy supervising it was very nice. I think his name was Tony. The workers made a lot of mistakes and it took a long time. This was a $5,000 repair work on a flood and it took about four months. It just took a long time. Part of it was that they would have untrained workers. They would come in, they wouldn't do the job right so they had to come back a few days later and redo it. I wasn't happy with that. There were a lot of issues like the plumber mixed up the hot and the cold water and he had to come back for that and then the sink wasn't put back properly. They had to come back for that. The drywall wasn't done right. They had to come back for that. They had to come back a lot and it took four months. This was something that should've taken at most, two or three weeks. Tony, the scheduler and the guy who was supervising the workers, he was reasonable. He didn't really complain. Anything that you ask him to, he did. I would maybe give them like a B- or something. I would recommend them saying that the person you interact with—Tony—is reasonable and courteous but I probably wouldn't hire them again because of the amount of time that it took.”

“Their project manager; lack of communication, inadequate coordination, inability to follow direction and properly scope the work before they started and that, that his understanding of our requirements was accurately communicated to the train. It cost us probably $50-$75 in extra materials because we had to go, we used all of the surplus and excess tiling material that we had planned for the floors because of Ryan's issues. They had to tear up the floor and redo it and DFW did not pay for those materials. That came out of stock we had already purchased. Now Ken, I think it's Ken, the guy that sold us the job, he was great. And he did the brick install. He was great. Any time that we had a delay getting the parts in, he called and communicated that, let us know what was going on. And I would think, I would have to think twice before I use DFW again if Ryan were involved in the project. We had a full bathroom redone. It was flooring; it was cabinetry; it was a new tub installed. I would say maybe a C- overall.”

“We had some remodeling done on our house and some work done in our kitchen. They're very straightforward and very easy, and they followed up really well. They had a lot of great ideas for what they wanted to do. They did what they said they were going to do, and it cost what they said it was going to cost. It was, all around, a very good experience. The workmanship was great, and they were clean and tidy. They get an A+.”

“It was great. They just follow through. They do what they say they're going to do in a timely manner and they're very fairly priced. We had a media room and crown molding. They've also done kitchen remodeling for us and a bathroom remodel in our old home. We just got several different quotes from different people and they were one of them. They weren't the highest, they weren't the lowest but they were the middle and we felt good with them. I would definitely give them an A+.”

“I had a terrible, horrible experience with them. It was very expensive remodeling including electrical work, plumbing, construction, tiling, I mean just about, just a ton of stuff. In the beginning, there are good reviews, I actually referred to your book. We actually stopped it right before the lawsuit because neither of us wanted to go through that. I'd give it a D overall. Definitely wouldn't use them again. I would not recommend them to anybody I know, not for anything.”

“They were great. They were on time and very responsive, and they gave me exactly what I was looking for. They were remodeling a balcony area on the outside of the house. I talked to a couple of other companies, but there wasn’t the kind of rapport that I had with Gary Simms. That made DFW Improved stand out a little bit more. I'd rate them as an A+.”

“It was great. They were just very easy to work with, and we liked that it was kind of a one-stop shop. They did everything in the house. We did some stuff in the kitchen, the bathroom, and some miscellaneous items. They were recommended by somebody. They deserve an A grade.”

“They showed up on time, did a great job with the product, and listened to all my concerns. They were very engaged in getting the work done and completing it. We had a loft, and they filled it in and added a pocket door to essentially enclose it. I’d give them an A+.”

“We basically gutted the entire first floor of our house, so it was a kitchen remodel, a master bath remodel, and new flooring on the entire first floor. The job was from October to February. I chose them because of their ability to begin rather quickly and the examples of their work. They get an A grade from me.”

“I would say I had a moderately good experience with them. I think they ran behind on time and they used the stain that they said they weren't going to use. They used a gel-based stain when we specifically spoke with our salesperson about not wanting a gel-based stain but that's what we have. They were recoloring our cabinets. They did staining. It was a kitchen, a bathroom, family room and a cap on the staircase. I liked the fact that they said they didn't like gel stains. They were just slightly more than the other people but because they know people that work for my company, I figured they were the least likely to hose me. The people were nice. They come through on their warranty. I'm just concerned about my stain finish and the life of it. That's pretty much my biggest concern at this point. They're like a 70 on a quiz. I want to make sure they understand that the quality of the work was good for what they did. It took a little longer than I thought. The quality of the workmanship was good. It wasn't the stain that we talked about as far as the type of stain. The color is fine. A B- grade is probably fine for them.”

“They were very professional in listening to what we were interested in doing and proposing the work back to us. They were very flexible with the different options. They were able to quote the job in components, so we could pick and choose like a menu, as opposed to it being all one way and them having to do a change if you don't want it all. That was very appealing to us. The work was done as promised and in a timely manner. They did some renovation of a patio area for us, and they also did some bathroom repairs for us. It was some minor plumbing work in the master bathroom shower. We had some problems with the tile sealing up, and they were able to help us get that corrected. I chose them because of the professionalism with which they approached the job. They came out as promised. There was face-to-face interaction with someone who stayed involved with the project, and it was just something that was a great feeling for us. They absolutely get an A.”

“They were very project oriented, and they explained everything they were going to do before they did it. They stuck to their schedule and budget. They were very customer-service oriented. We had them tile floors in two bathrooms, and then we had some repairs on our front windows. We had some rotten windowsills that they had to pull out and replace. They painted and updated our front door. I think when we interviewed them, and we were just impressed with their professionalism. They're an A+.”

“They did two bathroom remodels, and it took - there were no moving of walls, no moving of fixtures - it took I think 12-13 weeks’ total to do two small bathrooms. That the - It was basically the project manager, he was the nice guy. And did not plan well, no special-order tile and we knew that ahead of time; he had plenty of time to order the tile. It never got done until they needed the tile. So, yeah, it ended up just being a really sloppy sort of rush job for me at the end. My biggest complaint was really the time management, the project management I guess I should say. So, yeah, unfortunately, not a positive experience. I would not ever recommend them. I'd give them a D overall.”

“We did a remodel of our entire house. We moved out because they did everything from the ceilings down to the floor. Where there was popcorn ceilings, we had it removed. All of the walls were repainted. All of the molding was painted. We gutted our kitchen and our master bath and had custom cabinets made and granite put in. We had granite removed from the kitchen and refurbished and put into our study and the laundry room. The new granite put into the kitchen and our wet bar and a built-in cabinet in the kitchen as well. We put granite in our master bath. We have two other bathrooms. We put travertine in those, a honed travertine. We replaced all the lighting in the house. We painted or stained or replaced every cabinet in the house. We removed wallpaper from the bathrooms and had all of those surfaces textured the way the rest of the house is textured. We took out a wall between the family room and the kitchen. We took out most of that wall to open it up. We changed the wall in the master bedroom to give more room in the master bath. We replaced all the faucets. We literally replaced inside the house because I wanted a new house and we had built this originally and had wanted to stay here so we pretty much redid the entire inside of the house. It was a looooot of money. Not the usual remodel, I don't think. I saw them in the Best Pick Reports book. I saw them referred to well for both years and that's how we chose them. I'd give them an A. We were very happy.”

“They did a good job. There were some mistakes made, but they corrected them. The quality of work turned out to be very excellent. They did the floors, the cabinets, and the countertops. I did have one thing redone by them. They stepped up to the challenge of making it perfect and they did it. I compared them to two or three others and they seemed to have the best quote online. I'd say they're an A.”
