“They were wonderful. This guy had not worked for Berkeys for very long, but he had like 30 or 40 years of experience, and you can tell he really knew what he was doing. He was very polite, very kind. I thought he did an excellent job. I was happy to endorse him. He did a really good job. It was electrical. I had blown out a light bulb and it had shorted out some wiring, so he came out and fixed it. The house was up for sale, it just so happened. I can't remember if I was turning off a light or changing a light bulb, and it blew out and it blew out the whole house. So I got an electrician, and he came out to fix it. Then I sold the house. I'd give this particular guy an A, absolutely. What he did really was excellent. I forgot his name, but I think he deserves all the credit. I'm recommending them.”

“It's always positive. They take time if you have any comments or anything. It's fine. You can speak. You can say what you want. They did air conditioning. They just do all the electrical things. They've done excellent work, and I have no complaints. For years, they have done work on my house. I don't know how many years. It's been a long, long time, and I don't go to anybody else. Like any company, they have a couple of characters that aren't up to the other ones. Like every company, but that's expected. Nine out of ten of the people are good people. I would absolutely recommend them.”

“I use them all the time. I like the fact that they quote you a price and then they stick to that price, or really close to it, and if there's going to be any overages, they let you know. They try to save you money when they come out, you know; they're just real good people to deal with. They've done both plumbing and electrical work for me. I'd give them an A+ overall.”

“There was one thing that bothered me. I had two things done. One was a large row of incandescent lights that wouldn't come on. I called them, and they came out. There was a switch for those lights, but the switch was in the attic. I thought all of them going out at the same time was unusual, but nevertheless, he found a switch up there and turned it on; and all the lights came on. That was the experience with the lights. Then the technician came back a couple days later and put in a push light for me. The work itself was what I had called him for. As it turns out, if I'd known where the switch was, I could have saved myself some money doing the lights myself. But the part that bothers me wasn't the work that he did. I had a problem with a receipt. As a matter of fact, I was going to call Berkeys and tell them about this, but I kind of vacillated between telling them and not telling them. But something weird kind of happened. After the first work was done, I wrote a check for it. And I saw the guy writing on the roll of his receipt book, and I said, ‘Are you going to give me a receipt?’ He said, ‘No, they'll mail it to you from the office.’ I thought to myself, ‘That's a little unusual.’ But I didn't question it. Then he came back and put in a porch light. About two weeks later, I didn't get a receipt then also. But about three weeks later, I got a statement from Berkeys that was supposed to be, I guess, that receipt he was talking about. It told about the two jobs he had done—very small, but nevertheless, I paid around $25 on the first visit. The second visit was like $339 or something for the porch light. It described what he did, and it said, ‘Payment was $339.’ But there wasn't mention of the first job he did. Long story short, the statement I got, everything was correct on it except there was no mention of a payment for the first job he did. And, of course, he came back with his plan the following week, and he did the other part of the job. The receipt, as far as the owner of the business goes, if he looked at my receipt, it would show the work that he did, and it would show the last check I wrote him, which was the biggest check. They gave me credit for that and a receipt. But nowhere in the receipt did it mention the $2 and odd penny job that they did the first time he came out. So, if I were to just look at that receipt, I'd think ‘Well this person came out and did these two jobs, and he wrote one check.’ It made mention of the other work, but if you're just looking at it, it looks from the top like it was all put other one receipt. But that first check I wrote him didn't show up anywhere in the receipt. Not the wrong amount, not any amount. So I'm trying to figure out how they honor—whoever takes the checks in—I'm just curious to know how they would evaluate that. Because I should have gotten a receipt for both items. Therefore, I would have to say I really wasn't that pleased with it. The work itself was not bad. He left a pretty wide gap in the recess porch light though, so it wasn't a really good job. I didn't make any corrections to it. I made a mental note, though, to call the owner, but I didn't ever call. The experience I'd say would be a B. But that does not include the written stuff. In terms of doing everything that should have been done, it would have to have been an F because there's no mention of the work being paid for.”

“The guy that was doing the work, I told him out on the electric box he looked at it and said this thing needs to be updated. I had already told him I'm moving out of the house in three years and I don't want to put any more money into the electricity. We can always use a better box, any day. But he did that and shortly after that he called and asked if they could come out and look at my electrical that they were told that we needed some updates and that just kind of ticked me off. I tell somebody not to do something and then they try to force me to do it, I don't like that. It was a different experience than what I had done. I thought they were straight on people and I tried them and I think it might have just been me and the one guy that was doing my work. I cut him short on what he was doing and I finished it out myself. I hate to do that but if you get frustrated and have to finish it yourself it was just a whole thing was not as smooth as I expected. I thought about calling the owner and telling him about what was going on but I hate doing that. I've used them twice and that was the second time. I had them come out and work on some of my electrical, redoing a light switch and that kind of thing but that's simple little work, putting up light fixtures that kind of deal. I thought they were really good at that time but that one guy was probably my problem and his problem. If somebody doesn't listen to me I just naturally go off the deep end. It's like your kids, if you let them do everything they want to do eventually you'll be paying rent, they'll have your house. He did good work it was just he wasn't listening to me.”

“The customer service is great. Their pricing is horrific. I had some lighting replacement and basically that was it. If you want to say that their salesmen were very smooth and courteous, that was about it. They were very deceptive about the pricing and didn't tell me until I got there what the pricing would be so they were already in my house. They gave me the quote two minutes before I had to have the work done. Also, I called later on and asked them how much their Freon would be and I had to wring it out of them and get the main manager to tell me finally what their price was for Freon. I'm not dealing with them anymore. I also had some plumbing work done and they only sent out one man and the plumbing required them to get on the roof so they were unable to meet the need in the plumbing area. I had to call in somebody else and the price was about half. I would give them a 2 on a scale of 1-10.”

“I had an electrician and I had an air guy. The electrician is a nice kid. They had both of the services that I needed at the time. I was trying to get an air problem fixed and I was trying to get some electrical issues taken care of and they did both and so therefore I had two Berkey trucks at my house. I would give the electrician an A and the air guy a C. Maybe that's unfair because I think he probably did what I asked him to do but then when I got my quote, it was $28,000 and I got it done for $15,000 so I think they high-balled me.”

“Berkeys did some work for me in the past. I love them. They're on time. To me, that's one of the big things. Price is comparable. The big thing is that they're on time, and they call you before they come. They're clean, and they're courteous. That to me speaks more than just the cost. They take care of our plumbing, our electrical, and our HVAC. We've been using them for four or five years. Even when we sold our other house, we brought them back to work on our new house as well. “Berkeys is great. They've done everything. The last time they came out, they installed a new air conditioning unit. It went well, but there were some wiring issues. They resolved everything in a very timely and efficient manner. The technicians were great—they were very knowledgeable and friendly. The quality of work was great, too. I keep using them because of their location and the fact that they have up-front pricing. If it's going to be an expensive piece, they'll tell you it's going to be expensive. I like that they're very honest. I'd say they’re an A+.”

“They come out and check our A/C, HVAC and they've done some repair work. They changed out, we had a lightning strike and they came the next day and changed out a circuit board and then also changed that, replaced a furnace. Well they have a monthly program or a program that you can sign up for where they'll come and check your units a couple of times and give you a discount when they come out to do any work and we're signed up for that. So we've had a few issues and so we keep calling them and they showed up on time and taken good care of us. I would say A.”

“They suck. The installation took forever. They sent people out here that don’t know what they're doing. We were down for two or three days before they figured out that somebody didn't know how to do the switchboard to be able to connect all the wires correctly. I think one guy that came out to try to fix it blew the switchboard, so I told them they had to replace it. It's been a fiasco. It was my heater. We finally got it up and running, but it was a long time coming. I would give them probably a C-. I've got to use them because they have the stinking warranty, but I would not recommend them out to anyone else.”

“I thought everything with Berkey's came out fine. When I get someone that comes to the house that does a good job, if I need plumbing again then I ask for that person. So far, I've had good luck doing that. They said, ‘OK, now that's your plumber,’ and now this new person came to my house when I did the air conditioning and he came at the end and he changed the thermostat for me and everything because the one that they had put in had all this stuff about resetting it if you're going out for three afternoons or something like that and you want the air conditioning turned down or up or whichever way and so it had so much printing on it that I don't use that stuff and I said, ‘Man, all that stuff is so tiny on there that it's hard for me to see all that when I want to see what I want,’ and he said, ‘I've got a better one than that for you in the truck,’ and it wasn't a more expensive one or anything, it's just that it had less jazz on it and so it was more suited to my needs and so when I called back to the office about something, I said, ‘Now, Raphael is my electric man,’ she said, ‘Yeah, and your plumber is so and so,’ and they know who I like or who I want and so it's working out fine so far. I'd have to give them an A+ because if I don't like the service then I call back and they come fix whatever needs to be done so I'm pleased with it.”
