We were not pleased with our experience with Wheat & Sons. My husband and I bought two bathroom exhaust fans as we planned to replace them ourselves. We soon learned that they were not properly vented in our attic, so we called Wheat & Sons to provide a quote to install the fans and we also needed a new exhaust vent on our water heater. During the estimate appointment, I had the fans out on the kitchen table and asked the estimator if he wanted me to get them out of the box for him to do measurements, but he said, “no, I’m sure they’ll fit.” Between the bathroom exhaust fans and the water heater work, our quote was a little over $3k. Both the estimator and the technicians who came to do the work explained that one of our bathroom fans wasn’t working and if it needed to be rewired, they couldn’t do that and I would need to call an electrician. I completely understood. After the fans were installed and vented from our attic, there were gaps in the drywall around the fans. My husband called back to have someone come look at the work because we were now being quoted $500 to have this additional drywall work done. The man who came to look at the work just kept repeating, “this is why the contract states these were customer-supplied fans.” He said we simply hired them to install the fans that we bought, but if they had supplied the fans their guys would have measured everything to make sure it all fit without gaps in the drywall. I explained that I had asked the estimator if I needed to get them out of the box for him to take measurements and he said, “well he wouldn’t have done that because you asked us to install these fans.” When I asked for an itemized receipt, he said they don’t do those and the work was a flat rate. I asked if he could provide details on how much the water heater work was (since that included them providing supplies) and he said, “we don’t do itemized bills.” I explained the scenario and they fact that we had only bought the fans because we planned to do the replacement ourselves, but it was frustrating that there was no mention that if they didn’t fit they wouldn’t be responsible for that work or for anyone to bring up the other option of them supplying the fans to ensure they did fit. His answer was only, “well, we wouldn’t have told you that because you asked us to install the fans that you already had. That’s why the contract states they were customer-supplied.” No fine print with any explanation of what “customer-supplied” really means to them. If the other option had been presented to us, we likely would have returned the original fans to get our money back. I do understand that we asked them to install fans that we purchased, but the entire scenario was explained to the estimator and he was even asked about taking measurements. If he had explained at that point that they aren’t responsible if there are gaps in the drywall after and that the option to prevent that entirely would be for them to supply the fans, we at least would have had another option to consider. It was very frustrating that the man who came to look at the work seemed to be armed with only one response, which was, “that’s why the contract states they were customer-supplied.” Especially when the contract couldn’t even provide a breakdown of the costs.

Do not recommend, they came here multiple times and did tests to let me know something that i already knew which was the bathroom vent had no air. Was charged $800+ for this and no real solution was found on the first visit. On the second visit a solution was not found either and was charged $344 to access the ducts on the drywall and was quoted $1.2k for a possible solution and 3rd visit that did not guarantee me results. I called a different company and they were able to diagnose and resolve the issue within an hour without the need to create holes in the drywall at less than 10% of the price paid of the diagnosis here. Also quoted over $7k for Aeroseal which is more than double compared to other places.

We recently had a new HVAC system installed by Peter and Jonathan from James A. Wheat & Sons, Inc., and the experience was outstanding. Both were professional, knowledgeable, punctual, and extremely respectful of our home throughout the entire installation process. They took the time to explain everything clearly, answered all of our questions, and made sure the system was installed perfectly. Their workmanship and attention to our specific needs and requests were exceptional. It’s not often you come across a team that combines technical expertise with such great customer service. We are extremely happy with the installation and highly recommend Peter and Jonathan, as well as James A. Wheat & Sons, Inc., to anyone looking for reliable and high-quality HVAC service. Thank you for making the process smooth and stress-free!

I’ll also leave reviews on Google, Yelp, and Facebook review sites. Oscar and Tyler were terrific, professional in every way, respectful of us and our home, thorough in their work, knowledgeable, and communicated well. I had a good conversation with Wheat management and expressed this to them. I was impressed with the pride they take in hiring, training, and supporting their people. Technicians who enter your home to do their work are ambassadors for their employer. They are the proverbial tip of the spear, and nothing else matters if the customer doesn’t feel good about the experience. The best marketing is positive word of mouth, and Wheat is right to invest in their techs. A note to people reading this review: Wheat does not compete based on low price. If you’re seeking the lowest price you should look elsewhere. If you want excellent service delivered by top-notch technicians and a company that stands behind them and their work, you can’t go wrong with Wheat.
