“Initially, they came out for busted pipes. It was 10 at night and they stayed until two in the morning. It was an emergency call. I found their information from a website. We worked with them recently for mold in the air conditioner as well. I plan to use them when I replace my air conditioner. They all deserve raises!”

“Best Pick Reports is how I found Winters. I'm trying to remember what we had done. They were very efficient. He came in, was quick to diagnose, and was able to fix it the same day. That was helpful. When our heater broke recently, that company could not fix it the same day, so we used somebody else. I'd rate them an A-.”

“I liked the company because they came 2 or 3 times here. I spent a lot of money with the company and they did the work good and fixed the pipes. There is still a problem but not like before. They did work on the boiler and central A/C/heating. They changed an old part because when I bought I did not know about the problems with the central A/C and central heat. I tried so many different companies in the beginning and then I found this one. I’d give them an A.”

“They had prompt service, great expertise in their field. I like that a part that was relatively obscure was found within a half hour's time. We were without hot water for a couple of days and we were just overjoyed to have it back in working order. The expense was great, but it was a part that was relatively—the furnace system's what they installed, and it was a part that either has a longevity of twenty years plus or five years in our case. There was no blame to lay on anybody. I'd give them an A.”

“They came in very fast. It’s great customer service every time you call them. Whoever's in the office is doing a great job, and then the people they send out are very educated. They don't try to hard sell you on getting the most expensive thing. They educate you enough and give you all the options for you to decide on what to do for your situation. My system wasn't working in the summertime, so they came, put more Freon in it, and then put a sealant in it. I couldn't break the bank at this moment in time, so we just had to do a quick fix, but we went middle-of-the-road because the sealant he put in should have fixed the crack in there. I'd give them an A+.”

“I'd say it was a mixed experience. I liked that they were pretty prompt. They helped me on the phone first the day before to reset the boiler. Then they came, actually looked at it, and gave me some advice for free including finding a leak in the boiler, which was pretty cool. I didn't like that their advice was to change the boiler, which was not the right advice. I did my own research afterward. Then they quoted a price that was crazy high for both changing the boiler and for repairing it, especially considering the main part in question as I determined afterward would have been free, so basically they were quoting a price for labor that was way out of control. I'd give them a B.”

“I feel like they are overcharging me and under-delivering. One thing was simply the handle on the toilet wasn’t working. They came and said they could only put on a shiny nickel handle, but all of my things were not shiny. They said they needed to order it, and it was going to cost over $250. I told them to just go to Home Depot, and they said they didn’t have it and neither did Lowe’s. They never called to say they got the order. I had to track them down, and they came and put it in. By then I saw that Home Depot had them for $18. I asked the guy why he didn’t tell me Home Depot had them. He told me they weren’t allowed to use Home Depot products because they were not as good. I told him they didn’t need to lie about it. Needless to say, he put in what I had ordered for $250, and he just said it was not as high quality, but that is like a $220 difference. The most recent one was when he came for one thing, which was my garbage disposal. It turned out that the cleaning people had turned the switch off under the sink. He said since he was at my house was there anything else I wanted him to look at to make it worth my while. I told him about the heating system dripping out of a pipe that they had put in. When the audit guy came and could not tell me why it was dripping, I asked him to check it out. He said he didn’t know, but the water pressure was too high, and it would do a number on some of the fixtures after a while. He said this would cost about $3,000. I had another plumber come, and he said the pressure was high, but they could fix it for $600, which was less than 3 times the amount of the quotes I was getting. I don’t even want to use them anymore. He also told me that he would offset the toilet thing by giving me a free year of Winters Home Services. After this, I don’t even want to use them even for the free membership, and that is why I called them back, because of the free membership. I guess I would give them between a C and a D because I don’t want to use them again. Historically, their quality has been high until the toilet, so I guess I’d give them a C-, if I’m not factoring the cost.”

“Winters Home Services sounds familiar. It was a neutral experience, but it was a rip-off. They came in to diagnose my furnace that was not turning on. I've had this particular problem before, so something that I would have paid a lot less money for. This guy messed around, so for a 15-minute job, he wanted to charge me $350. They were also trying to sell me something else. He did what he was supposed to do, but I didn't find him particularly helpful. He fixed the problem but also ripped me off and gave me a lot of ying-yang. But I'm experienced, and I knew better. I wouldn't use them again.”

“I believe they did heating repair over the winter. I would say that the repair was what I needed, but I felt that they were very overpriced. There was a small piece of the igniter in the heating system that went. It was probably a $25 piece, and it ended up costing me $500 to get it repaired. They didn't do any plumbing work. It was an emergency repair, so during the winter I couldn't get another plumber to come at that point, since the heating system went, and I was short on plumbers at that point. I called them as a last-ditch attempt to get somebody. I felt they did good work, for what they needed to do. I thought it was easy enough. I'd give them an A- for work. For price, I'd give them definitely an F.”

“We've had Winters here several times. I'd have to say, I thought we had the heating system shut down for the summer, but we put it on because it was getting so cold in this house. It had nothing to do with Winters, except for the name. We were very happy. The people that come out here are really nice, nice people. They're very considerate. I have no complaints. No complaints. They put a whole new heating system in my rental property right next door, and the brass shines nicely. It's nice and pretty, and it runs very, very well. They had to do some work on the heating system in this house here. I was kind of disappointed, but I can't blame Winters. The heating system that we had put in our house was a gas valve. It malfunctioned and had to be replaced. Of course, things like that always happen in it seems like minutes, no more than a couple months after the warranty expired. That was an expensive item, and despite the fact that the technician who tried to repair it was unsuccessful, he did really try. We were four days without any heat when it was really quite cold out. Not having heat made it a little uncomfortable, but we have a fireplace fire to keep us warm. The part was expensive, and he kept trying to repair it and repair it over a period of several days, almost to the point that, given the weather, he maybe could have just put a new one in and matched the price of it and be done with it. Other than that, I have no complaints. I'd give them an A. The men on the job, they were an A. The people that we talked to when we made phone calls would have gotten maybe a B+. Their customer service could be improved. They were good and polite and you could read their writing when they wrote up a report. One thing I think Winters could improve on is that, when they send us a bill, it should be a little more detailed. When you're paying $10-11,000 for a new unit, I'd like to have a better description of what was done and a little more detail as far as what I got for my $11,000.”

“I liked a couple things. One, they're very organized and professional. Two, prior to the service, they send a picture and a small bio of the worker that's coming to the residence, so you have an idea of who's going to be coming through your door. They're also very accommodating when they can be. For this specific service, I needed an additional thing done while they were there, so they make sure that they can accommodate you and do so. But they’re honest, and if they can't, they tell you the truth. They don't over-promise. The most recent job they did was come to look at my HVAC. I thought the condenser itself was broken, but within ten minutes, they were able to diagnose that it was a thermostat issue, and they took care of it in relatively short order. Also, my other plumber had cancelled that day. He was going to come and put in a stove, and they did it for me because the timing all worked out. I'd used them a couple times before, and they are a little more expensive than the person I usually rely upon, but Winters is more reliable. It's worth the money to have that reliability. I'd give them an A+.”

“I didn't like their lack of forthcoming information with pricing. They were prompt with their service. They came in, went to look at the problem, found the problem, and just came up with a number. I asked for the details of the price, and the technician couldn't give me an answer. He said, 'I don't know. The office just comes up with a number and I tell you what the price is.' After I had them do the work and checked on it, I found out that the price of the part was about $250, and they charged me almost $1400 for the work done, which took them approximately, even with travel time, about four hours. I felt I was overcharged for service. They replaced a piece on my boiler. I would never work with them again. For the work, I'd give them a solid B. They did the work correctly and on time.”

“They were very friendly, and they were prompt. They put a new starter on my furnace. I think it was something like that. They haven't done any drain or sewer work. I had used another company for many projects, and that plumbing company was bought by Winters, so when I called that original number, I got Winters. I'd give them a B but only because of the cost. It was twice as much as what the other company had charged for the exact same furnace part. A $200 job became a $400 job.”

“Winters Home Services did work for me at the end of last year in November. I signed up for scheduled maintenance. The estimator took his time to contact me about that. So then I scheduled a different date, and the exact same thing happened. He was gone for half the day and never even contacted me to let me know they won't be coming. That was something they probably could have told me earlier. I think it took three times for me to resolve. All in all, it was well over a month from the time I initially scheduled to when it actually happened. It was just cleaning a furnace they were supposed to be doing for me. It was a preventative case. I understand that it wasn't a major issue, but that's something they should be aware of. To call me that they won't be coming. If I do use them again, it's because of a lack of other options. I'd give them a D+. I might use them, but probably not. I'm not going to say I won't ever use them again.”

I chose them because when I reached out to a few companies, Winters was the nicest. I called them during a snowstorm, and they still managed to come out. Somehow, my heat just didn't work. “My experience was good for the most part. It was a difficult situation they were trying to diagnose for me, I'll grant them that, but I signed up for the one-year subscription service contract with them and have had virtually no follow up regarding how that all works. That was the case when I had a contract with them the last time. They never initiated anything or tried to schedule any biannual visits to check up the HVAC system that the contract was for, and I never actually got a hard copy of the contract I signed physically while the representative was there with me, so I didn't know the dates that things expired or how long the contract was to run. I think it was three years, but I can't even say for sure. It was bad follow up. I'm not sure if it got lost in the office or what. Everybody I dealt with face to face was brilliant. Everyone was neat and friendly and explained things to me with one exception. They were pretty much living here for a while while my HVAC system was on the blink. They were probably sick of dealing with me, but I expected some follow-up from the office regarding how it was supposed to play out as far as the contract was concerned. They had to snake out the PVC that went to the roof, so that was pseudo-plumbing, but beyond that, there was no actual running water that was supposed to be running. We chose them because the condominium suggested them when I called to inquire as to who was responsible for the issues that were going on in my unit. Just about everybody but one individual that I dealt with face to face was great. Everybody who came here was very patient and explained everything. The people I talked to on the phone were great, too. It's just that the paperwork and the contract stuff was never followed through at all. My qualm was the communication. Somebody installed a thermostat on the wall that didn't really know what they were doing, and it fell off within 24 hours of it having been put on. The people that came in addressed that situation the next time they visited, which was later that week. It was just one individual that wasn't trained well. Everyone else who did work on the unit was brilliant. Everybody except for that one individual was great. There were four or five other people who I dealt with who were all great, and then that one guy dropped the ball or didn't know what he was doing. So, I'd give them a B-, I guess.”

“It was kind of a mixed experience. I had to have Winters Home Services out four or five times for the same problem. I think the issue was just that the boiler they installed was bad. They put a new tankless boiler in. I kept having to have them come out, and I eventually had to make them replace it. I chose them just because it was kind of an emergency, so I called them. I'd give them a C.”

“They’re very responsive and very informative. They were one of the few people who could figure out my heating system, so I’ve used them ever since. The workers have always been really great—super nice and very conscientious of trying to keep my house clean. I’ve never had a problem with anybody—A+.”

“I liked that on the couple of times we used them, the people that came out were knowledgeable, friendly, and didn't overbill. Those are all positives in my book. On one occasion, they installed a dryer vent external to the house. On another occasion, they replaced a fuse or some part of our central heating unit in the basement. I think they unclogged a showerhead, too, but that was a while back. I chose them because of something as simple as our water heaters having been serviced by them in the past. The resident previous to us had used them. They earned an A from me.”

“I've never been disappointed. They seem to know what they're doing, they're good-natured, and they're expensive but worthwhile. They've done a number of things for me; I don't remember the last thing they did. They haven't done air conditioning. I don't have house air conditioning. I have unit air conditioning. They did work on my water heater and furnace and plumbing work. I chose them because the company I was dealing with in the past was bought out by them. I'd give them a B+ to A-.”

“They're prompt, and they seem to be efficient. They put a new boiler in about five years ago for us. They've serviced some heating problems that we had. They're very reliable. They redid some plumbing in our hot water heating system, but that was several years ago. I chose them because they acquired the plumbing service we used to use. They were acquired by Winters, and we kept using them. I'd give them an A.”

“I did use them at least one time. There was one thing that I didn't like. When I called them, they had a special that if you called them, there would be $50-$100 off the service, and that was not applied to my bill. They installed two thermostats, and I think on one of the radiators, they did a cleaning and removed the air bubbles. They came in time and took care of the things promptly. They seemed to have a good reputation, so that's why I chose them. I'd give them a B.”

“It was more or less positive. They were pretty prompt in coming to my home. They did maintenance and a repair to my boiler, I believe. They did no plumbing work for me. I think some members of the Winters group were part of another home maintenance service that went out of business. I recognized several familiar faces, and that was also a reason. I'd give them a B+.”

“I always use Winters Home Services—they’re extremely good at what they do. They’re quick and efficient, and they always get it right. They did plumbing work for me recently, but I’ve used them for years. They've worked on two of our homes, and they've done everything from boilers to new bathrooms. I would definitely give them an A+.”

“Winters Home Services is always great. They're just punctual. I can always get them on short notice and they have good around-the-clock service. They're very good. They have good customer service. In April, they installed a garbage disposal for me. They've done A/C work, installed a furnace, and have done a bunch of other stuff. I've been using them for a couple of years. They’d get an A.”

“Everything was fine. They were punctual, they cleaned up after themselves, and they did a good job. They do everything for me. They’ve put in my furnace and hot water tank, and they’ve fixed different plumbing problems as far as bathrooms and stuff like that. I’ve been working with them for probably 10 to 12 years. I’d give them A+ because I’ve never had a problem—not once.”

“They came on very short notice and took care of just what needed to be taken care of. I had a leak in my hot water, whatever it’s called, that big container. It was leaking. They came right out and they went and got another one and installed it the very same day. I chose them over a different company because I had already dealt with them for something a year before and as a matter of fact I think I had taken out a contract with them for them to maintain my heating and air conditioning system. I’d give them an A.”

“Winters Home Services did work for me in the past. I would say I'm happy with them. First of all, they were very honest and dependable. Second, their quote was very accurate. I thought it was really straight-up. They actually had to replace a hot water heater for me. Originally, I had a warranty with another company, and Winters actually bought them out. I wasn't very happy with the original company, but since it was under warranty, I had to go with them, and when Winters bought them out, I was very happy. I've actually made some referrals already to some other people for Winters. I'm going to go onto a service contract with them for my heating and air conditioning. I would give them an A+.”

“They were able to fix the thing that needed to be repaired. It was like a pump but not a sump pump. I think it was connected to the furnace. They were friendly. I’d give them a B because the pump has a plastic pipe that goes from the pump to the second floor of the house and the second floor of the house is where the water gets out of the house. It goes from the pump through the hose all the way to the second floor and then the water goes through the drain and I am assuming that that drain is connected to the pipe that takes the water out of my house. There was an initial problem with that hose that apparently it was not connected properly before they came to the house. If they had seen the connections before doing anything, if they had checked those connections, they could have easily told me it was just a matter of moving the hose versus having to purchase a new pump. I spent more than $500 on the visit. I have always wondered if the pump was not working because the hose, I’m not blaming them for connecting the hose in a different way but what I’m saying is before you tell someone let’s change the pump, or even if the customer thinks that the pump needs to be replaced, you should always say let’s conduct all these tests to find out if the pump needs to be replaced or if it’s something else. In my case, there’s always that question mark as to whether there was a need for a new pump or whether it was just simply a matter of putting the hose in the right place for the water to go from the pump to the drain. The guy told me the pump was almost 10 years old and the life of those pumps is from 6 to 10 years which meant eventually I would have to replace it. There’s always that question mark. Did I need to replace it that day or could I have used it one more year?”

“I have this monthly plan with them where we pay $19.99 a month so that we can have service visits for free without having to pay the minimum to have them come out and then we’re on their priority list and we’re supposed to get fifteen percent toward the work but I’ve actually hired others to do work for me because their prices are so high even with the fifteen percent off. So if I have an emergency and they get the work done, that’s fine, but I had somebody else do my air conditioner. I had somebody else do some refitting for me in the basement and I had gotten quotes from Winters both of those times and the quotes were really high and I just wasn’t really satisfied with that level of service. They’re very responsive and very respectful on the phone when you call them. When there’s an issue they come out but for a kind of bigger jobs, they’re really not my go-to. Going back as far as when we first bought the house a year-and-a-half ago we had a frozen pipe, we had a broken toilet two weeks later and then we had a frozen pipe again this winter. We also had what turned out to be an ice dam but we weren’t sure if it was the radiators upstairs leaking so we called them for that as well. On the quality of work, I think it’s a B. It’s fine but they don’t blow me away. Like with the toilet issue they talked me into a toilet that I didn’t really need but I was desperate so I went with it. I am short so it’s actually not that much more comfortable for me and I have children that I’m potty training and I have to get an extra high stool for them to reach the toilet so the comfort height isn’t really that comfortable in my family.”

They replaced a garbage disposal. I have been using their services for a year and a half to two years. I’d give them B+. I won’t say our house is tough but nobody can figure out what our air conditioning problem is. I would say B+ to A-. I would recommend them to friends and family.”

“I can get an appointment with them fairly quickly. I actually called them to look at a heating system malfunction. They weren't able to take care of it. I ended up using somebody else to fix the problem. It was very little work. They showed up and looked at the problem. They did identify—at least they tried to identify the problem. They're a local company, so I just found them because they're local. I'd give them a C.”

“We've had a lot of issues since the installation. They did an install of our heating system and cooling system in December. We've just had a series of issues sort of ever since the install. So it hasn't been so positive. We had instances within the first four to six weeks where the heat just wouldn't work, so they had to come out here two or three times to get it running. A couple nights we basically had no heat, and the most recent one was where they had told me that they hadn't completed the cooling installation because it didn't make sense during the winter. So I called them and had them come back in the spring just like they asked me to. When they showed up, they said, ‘Oh no, everything looks fine; it looks like everything's all done.’ So a couple days later when it was a hot day, the A/C kicked on, and I just happened to go down to the utility room, and there was water coming out all over the unit. I called them back, and it turns out that they hadn't finished the installation. Another time, we had one of the plumbers come out to put in a new toilet. We agreed on what toilet was going to go in. Even in the morning, I talked to the plumber about what specific toilet we wanted; I came home that night to find they hadn't put in that toilet. They put in a different toilet. It hasn't been all that great. I'd give them a D.”

“I might have had them out. I'm always satisfied because they come right over. They were polite and explained things to me, and I told them I didn't want a big expensive repair. They understood. We had an outage. It was the furnace—the furnace shut down. It was an electrical problem. They had to replace a small part. We chose them because they were close by. They used to be on Pleasant Street. When I went over to get gas, I had Boston gas, and I thought they were experienced young people. They sent several people over here. I'd give them an A.”

“They did repairs for the furnace. The technician who came was friendly, lively, and energetic, and he showed us everything what was going on and what was wrong. He was truly enthusiastic—he loves what he does. We were without heat at 10 p.m., so he drove out here and got here at 10:30 or 11. He was very personable, and he did a good job. He did everything that had to be done. He fixed it, told us why it wasn't working, and solved all our problems. The pilot light on the furnace would not stay on. We couldn't light it. It was a fairly simple fix. It was corroded, but we didn't know what it was, so he took care of it. Choosing him wasn't very sophisticated. We called the plumber who had originally installed the furnace for us, but they were no longer in business. We called someone local, but they didn't do 24-hour service, and then somehow we were referred to Winters. It was by default that we ended up calling them. I'd give them an A.”

“They were contracted through the EnergyStar program to do work. We were doing blown-in insulation, and we had windows put in. The people who did the windows had miscalculated on how the air conditioning was going to work, so they're the ones who came in and did the work, and we're very happy with what they did. In other words, I didn't pick Winters directly, but I'm very happy with them. I'd give them an A.”
