“I could not be more dissatisfied and disappointed with my experiences with Cranney. The most positive thing I can say about them is that whenever I called, I was able to reach someone and get an appointment fairly quickly, however, any appointment I ever had resulted in my spending money for a problem that was never even identified let alone solved. I only contacted Cranney because the prior owners had used them for the installation of their central A/C and boiler. Cranney likely came at least 2 times in the summer of 2019 when the central A/C wasn't working. I was charged each and every time they came, usually $150-$200 each time, and they were never able to give me a firm answer on what the issue was with the A/C let alone fix it. My system did not work properly until this summer when I was able to find a qualified HVAC tech who determined that the issue was a faulty part within the system that needed to be replaced AND was still under the original owner warranty. The part cost me nothing since it was under warranty but had it not been, it still would have cost roughly about the same as what I had paid to Cranney for the times they came and charged me for doing basically nothing. The HVAC tech who did the work this summer also suspected that the issues the A/C was having were compounded by the fact that too much refrigerant had been added, which was done one of the times Cranney had come out. So basically an HVAC tech who did not install the system, Cranney did, was able to identify the issue in one visit. I don't recall exactly how many times Cranney came but I believe it was 2 or 3. The A/C issue had not yet been resolved this summer when I also had an issue with my boiler back in May. Since it was still colder weather and it was installed and supposedly under warranty with Cranney, I contacted them. They were able to send someone out same day, however, the only thing the person that came did was take the cover off the boiler and let me know he saw a mouse inside. He had absolutely no idea what to do or how to handle the situation and basically just sat there for a good 10 minutes until I asked what we were going to do from here. He said he would have to go and talk to his manager, which I assume he did, came back in and told me there was nothing that could be done until the rodent "issue" had been resolved. As far as I understood from him, there was only a single mouse in there and there was definitely no rodent issue within my home. He then proceeded to tell me I owed him for the visit, which I think was approximately $100. He also gave me a quote for what would need to be done once the "issue" had been resolved and that was several thousand dollars. That was a quote for a diagnostic only not to actually fix whatever the problem was. I was able to have another HVAC company, separate from the one who would later repair my A/C, come out the following day, took no issue with the potential rodent in the system and did a diagnostic for about $100. I ended up replacing the entire boiler. From what I remember, the diagnostic quote Cranney gave me was about half of what the entire new boiler installation cost me. So not once, but twice, I had basically the same experience with your company where they were either unable or unwilling to determine what the problem was with either my heating or cooling systems and charged me for that, which was nothing, each and every time. Not to mention the fact that I have proof of what the actual issue was in both these instances. Other HVAC companies were able to diagnose and fix the problems separately, something Cranney could not seem to do in either case. I have no problem with paying for work completed but Cranney essentially did nothing, except add too much refrigerant to my A/C system several years ago, each time they came and I was charged each and every time. If I were to add up how much I have paid Cranney over the past 3 years, I believe it would be well over $500 and they never once resolved the issue that I was having. All they ever did was give me quotes for more diagnostic work that would have to be done at an additional cost. Incredibly angry by the experiences I had with them thinking of all the time and money that was wasted.”
“I would never recommend the Cranney Home Service Plan. They were supposed to service my 2 yr old Navien Furnace which was working fine prior to their visit. Within 4 hrs of their arrival a decompression valve gave way and water poured into my basement. The Cranney supervisor insisted that any malfunction of the furnace within hours of their service visit was purely coincidental. Homeworks Energy, the company that originally installed the furnace, came out to fix the furnace and showed me several areas where the Cranney technicians had NOT serviced the furnace appropriately and caused the pressure to build and release resulting in flooding my basement.”
