“They were totally a failure. The guy, his name is Joe, he came in and cleaned the furnace. We asked the guy from woodwork because he said the furnace was dirty. We asked Winters to come in to clean it. He cleaned it, but when we asked another company to come and do the installation work, they said the CO reading was way too high. It was only one day later. We turned on the heat for one day, and then the guy who came to do the installation work said the meter reading said the CO was 2, something, but he said the maximum should be 1. Luckily we didn't die. We immediately called Joe to come back, and he checked the heater, and he found out that the heater wasn't working anymore. It wasn't working. He came to clean it, and it worked, so we turned it on for one day then the guy came and said the reading was 2, something. So Joe must've immediately shut down the heat. We were cold last week for three days. Eventually, we had to agree to the service of cleaning. He said he will come back another time, in about six months to clean it again. It's not working anymore after the service. We have to pay over five thousand dollars to buy a new heater. I don't know what we should do. We went to the insurance company today, and they said this is not covered.”

“Winters is horrible. First of all, they came and charged me $15 to do the drain work, but it didn't work, so they only charged me $1. I had somebody else come after them, do the work, and it worked fine. Winters was supposed to reimburse me my money, but I still haven't seen it.”

“It was a good price, and they did an excellent job. They replaced a portion of my sewer line out from the house. The customer service was good. There was a little bit of a delay. He was trying to finish up some other projects, so there was a week or two delay from when he first estimated it would be done. He was trying to get some things done before the limit for doing anything regarding work that would dig up the street, so he put mine back, but I had no problem with that. I had three companies come out and give me bids and talk to me. The person who did it immediately sounded very knowledgeable and gave me a good price on the work. We had a few unexpected things come up during the work. The line bent where we didn’t expect, but they dealt with that fairly well. I’d give them an A.”

“They fixed a drain for me. The first time I had a good experience and the second time I didn’t. I used them twice. Both times they did a drain cleaning. I just think the second time the guy was inexperienced and he had an attitude. I don’t want him back in my house again. I didn’t call the company because it was after the work was done but I wasn’t satisfied with how the work was handled. If a friend or neighbor asked about the company I would probably recommend them. They do good service. I’d give them a B.”

“I was charged for the services they provided, and we had to call them back and try to get our money back. They tried to screw me, basically, so it wasn’t positive. Them giving me my money back was not a positive experience. I called them out to clean out a drain, which took them about 15 minutes and their website guaranteed was $99, and they tried to charge me almost $400 for it. I would not recommend this company to anyone. The guy was very nice, but he tried to screw me over in the end. He did the job, but he used my inexperience in plumbing to screw me. I would not recommend their service to anyone ever again. I’d give them a D.”

I had problems with tree roots. This was the line that goes between my house and the street. I’ve had trouble with tree roots and every 4 or 5 years I have to have it blown out to make sure it does not impede the passage of the sewer to the street. I’d give them a B+.”

“My drain was backing up. I was happy to be able to do laundry. It was a floor drain that’s attached to my laundry room, so every time I tried to do laundry, water was coming up in the basement. I have not had any problems with this since they came in and fixed it. It works fine. If a friend or neighbor asked about the company, I would recommend them. I’d give them an A. “They did some work for me. I actually had the problem again, so I called them again, but they refused to do the work. The first time was a positive experience, but for whatever reason, when I called them again, they told me I had to hire a different company to change my pipe. He was not 100 percent sure that we had to change it. Our drains were somewhat blocked, but no one actually came back. They said our equipment could be damaged, and that’s why they didn’t come back. It’s fixed now because I got another plumber. The first time, I had a very positive experience with this company. Whatever they did the first time, they sent a person here, and it was open, but he recommended that another company come and change the pipe. He said we would have to involve the city and everything, but I didn’t want to have that cost. After two or three months I called them, no one came; they said it might damage something, and that’s why they didn’t come. I would say they were excellent.”

I can't say that I was super satisfied, but I didn’t work with the company directly. We had a clogged drain, so we ended up calling another company. “They got the job done. I just think they're very expensive. They're professional with their response, so there's not a huge time lapse. They're definitely professional and timely. There was a problem with a bathtub drain that seemed to be leaking. They never actually identified the problem, and they punched holes in the ceiling for $500, so the previous service call had been better—that was for heat. This one was a little carried away price-wise. In the end, their professionalism with response was great, but their prices are so outrageous that I'm going to give them a C.”

“It was good response time—there's no doubt—but when it came to the price, somehow it grew. My main concern was that eventually it was significantly higher than it was said after the person was there. This was an unpleasant surprise. It was drain cleaning, a drain problem. I was very happy they responded. It was in the middle. There was another concern—it took me several calls and several days to get the invoice. So I'm already not only surprised with $350, then there were the unpleasant conversations about why. It was such an exact price at the beginning, like $1,274, and then I found out it was $1,500 or something. They said, ‘I told you I had to do that and that.’ But they were there only an hour; I evaluated everything. How could I miss it? I said, ‘OK. Put whatever your findings or your recommendations are in the invoice.’ Then I had to fight to get this invoice. I cannot evaluate the work. I hope it's OK, no complaints after, but it's a drain problem. I would give it a C.”

“I had a clogged drain, and when I called Winters Home Services, I got a call back right away. They set up an appointment, and he was at my front door five minutes early. He explained to me what had to be done. He came around the back and put drop cloths down. He went up into the ceiling, opened the pipes, and ran a snake through. I went to move furniture and stuff out of his way, and he said he would move it for me. He was very professional and very polite. He went back out to the truck and got a bigger snake. He said, ‘I want to make sure I go all the way to the main and clean that all out well so that you don't have future problems.’ When he was done, he cleaned everything up; you wouldn't have known I had anyone in the house—A+.”

“They were very friendly, and they were prompt. They put a new starter on my furnace. I think it was something like that. They haven't done any drain or sewer work. I had used another company for many projects, and that plumbing company was bought by Winters, so when I called that original number, I got Winters. I'd give them a B but only because of the cost. It was twice as much as what the other company had charged for the exact same furnace part. A $200 job became a $400 job.”

I've used them for 15 or 20 years. They answer any questions that I have. Whoever the technician is, I'll ask many questions, and they'll show me. They don't treat me like an idiot. They answer their phone. They're expensive; that's the only thing I don't like about them. They've replaced an outside water main, fixed a toilet, fixed an outside shutoff valve, and fixed a leaky sewer pipe. They replaced an outside faucet and a problem in my shower. I have an old house, so there are lots of problems. I'd give them an A+.”

“They were able to fix the thing that needed to be repaired. It was like a pump but not a sump pump. I think it was connected to the furnace. They were friendly. I’d give them a B because the pump has a plastic pipe that goes from the pump to the second floor of the house and the second floor of the house is where the water gets out of the house. It goes from the pump through the hose all the way to the second floor and then the water goes through the drain and I am assuming that that drain is connected to the pipe that takes the water out of my house. There was an initial problem with that hose that apparently it was not connected properly before they came to the house. If they had seen the connections before doing anything, if they had checked those connections, they could have easily told me it was just a matter of moving the hose versus having to purchase a new pump. I spent more than $500 on the visit. I have always wondered if the pump was not working because the hose, I’m not blaming them for connecting the hose in a different way but what I’m saying is before you tell someone let’s change the pump, or even if the customer thinks that the pump needs to be replaced, you should always say let’s conduct all these tests to find out if the pump needs to be replaced or if it’s something else. In my case, there’s always that question mark as to whether there was a need for a new pump or whether it was just simply a matter of putting the hose in the right place for the water to go from the pump to the drain. The guy told me the pump was almost 10 years old and the life of those pumps is from 6 to 10 years which meant eventually I would have to replace it. There’s always that question mark. Did I need to replace it that day or could I have used it one more year?”

“They’re pretty good about showing up on time. They get the work done reasonably quickly. They do a good job but they’re kind of expensive. There were a couple of things they did. One was a pipe connected to a sump pump had been damaged and needed replacing. That was a few minutes’ worth of work and a few cheap parts and was very expensive because they have a certain amount that they charge for that job no matter how hard or easy it is. In my case it was really, really easy but they still charged that price. They also were replacing a dead battery in the sump pump system and that went pretty well although one of the trips where they came out to my house was kind of a waste of time because they didn’t have the replacement battery. I’d give them B+ of the thing with the battery. I think we wound up with a total of 3 trips out because of the battery problem. The first trip they tried replacing some water, the water level in the battery was low. The second trip was a week or two later when it was still having problems. They showed up and took a look, had no replacement battery so they couldn’t actually do anything that day. The third trip was with a replacement battery. I supposed they may have felt they needed to send somebody out to diagnose it before ordering the battery but to me it felt like kind of a waste of time since they’d already tried one fix.”

“We've had a lot of issues since the installation. They did an install of our heating system and cooling system in December. We've just had a series of issues sort of ever since the install. So it hasn't been so positive. We had instances within the first four to six weeks where the heat just wouldn't work, so they had to come out here two or three times to get it running. A couple nights we basically had no heat, and the most recent one was where they had told me that they hadn't completed the cooling installation because it didn't make sense during the winter. So I called them and had them come back in the spring just like they asked me to. When they showed up, they said, ‘Oh no, everything looks fine; it looks like everything's all done.’ So a couple days later when it was a hot day, the A/C kicked on, and I just happened to go down to the utility room, and there was water coming out all over the unit. I called them back, and it turns out that they hadn't finished the installation. Another time, we had one of the plumbers come out to put in a new toilet. We agreed on what toilet was going to go in. Even in the morning, I talked to the plumber about what specific toilet we wanted; I came home that night to find they hadn't put in that toilet. They put in a different toilet. It hasn't been all that great. I'd give them a D.”

“More or less, I guess, it wasn't extremely positive. I've used them forever. The delivery of service has really declined over time. In the beginning that was an outstanding organization. Now it's not what it used to be. Every part of plumbing in my house is from Winters. I think the biggest statement I can make is that it's not what it used to be. Maybe they've grown too fast or they've gotten too big for their britches and the customer, I don't know that the customer comes first. They make amends to it but it's a haggle. I'm not used to having to haggle with them and that's the issue. I had somebody come out to do my drain and then, it's really complicated and cumbersome. I'm probably not happy with them. It's a different organization than what it used to be and if I didn't have so many parts of my home that has their name on it I'd probably be looking for something else. My heating system is by them, my toilet, the pipes, my garbage disposal broke. The guy told me he thinks he can fix it. He fixes it and he says, if it breaks and it lasted a month, we'll give you $100 off the next thing. It broke in three days. So I called and so it was like $300 plus the, a new garbage disposal was $900. And I was lucky enough to get $100 off after already spending $300 so that kind of, you know, being a customer long standing - I'm not happy with them. I think the young guy that came out and finally put my garbage disposal in did a really nice job so I would say a B-. I'm unhappy with them. So for example, for my drain when the guy came out and he fixed it, they said, oh we're going to make you a special customer. I thought I already was a special customer and it happened so fast. I called them back and said, you know I really don't want that. I was really hustled. I've never been hustled by Winters before and I was hustled for the first time in my last exchange with them. That's something that wouldn't have happened when Gene was around. He was first and foremost genuine, stood by his work, hired great guys. I asked this one old guy to come out and do my plumbing. Well he's doing other things now. They send me other people who cut me this good deal. Oh I'll fix this for you. If it breaks in a month, I'll give you $100 off. Oops it broke so now I wind up paying them $1200 for a $100 thing. They seem sleazy to me now and yet I respond to them because of the guy who started the company. I give a B-.”

“They were fine. They got here in a timely fashion and they fixed the problem, but we still had to have our regular plumber come back to tweak it a little bit. We had a leak in the main drain so he snaked it. He put a camera to look for anything else and then he, there was an issue getting something back on, like the valve that he took off, he couldn't get back on so he had to rig it a certain way. So then we had to get our real plumber to fix it. But he told us that he couldn't fix it. This was a one time thing, an emergency. I'll give them like a B, B-. We always feel like you get ripped off on an emergency.”

“I think they did some drain cleaning quite a while ago for us. Well it was kind of an emergency and they came right out and you know, followed up with me and then I needed to get an extra copy of the invoice because I don't know what I did with the original one and they sent it right out so just promptness and getting the job done obviously. They cleaned up, the main sewer drain was clogged so they cleaned it out. They haven't done HVAC work for me. I'd give them a B.”

“I think they did plumbing for us. They were very helpful and gave me a good deal on the drainage operation that we needed to have done. They originally were going to charge me a lot of money, but then we were able to negotiate it down to an affordable price, so that was what I liked about them. They did something called a snake draining where they basically had an apparatus that’s a long metal rod that they put in our drain to clear it of a clog. I’d give them an A.”

“Their knowledge of the work they came to do made my experience positive. There was a problem with the heating system, so they came to repair that. They didn't do any drain work. I chose them because a previous owner had used them. I'd give them a B. I can't really think of a reason they wouldn't get an A, but nothing is perfect, so I'm giving them a B.”
