Hiring a Contractor
While it is important to begin the drying process as quickly as possible
after a home flood, it is best to make sure you are hiring a reputable
water damage company and that they have experience in mold remediation.
No regulations governing water damage restoration procedure are
currently in effect; however, the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and
Restoration (IICRC), a large certifying organization, has set a
procedural standard which most companies follow. The IICRC S500 outlines
guidelines and precautions to be followed in performing water or sewage
damage services in a home or building. A water damage service
contractor should be willing and able to explain every step of his or
her process to the homeowner and should answer any questions the
homeowner may raise before, during, or after the procedure.
