Selecting the Right Custom Blinds | Best Pick Reports
A large selection of blinds is currently available on the market. The options range from the inexpensive, do-it-yourself vinyl types at the local hardware store to professionally made 2- or 2½-inch custom wood blinds. Custom blinds also have a much greater long-term value. They are typically made of wood or faux wood and come in a variety of colors.
Wood blinds. Wood blinds are durable and provide a traditional look. Attractive from both the interior and exterior of the home, they can elevate the design of a room. Wood blinds generally come in 2- or 2½-inch slat widths and can be constructed from a variety of hardwoods—including basswood, oak, and cherry—as well as stained or painted to complement any decor.
Faux wood blinds. Faux wood blinds provide the look of wood while being made of less expensive materials, such as PVC, vinyl, or a composite of vinyl and wood. Composite blinds are more durable than vinyl blinds, and their wood grain can look more authentic. In general, faux wood blinds are often preferred in rooms with high humidity levels, such as a kitchen or bathroom, because unlike real wood blinds, they will not warp.
