Northern Virginia Security Tips
While a home security system is an excellent precaution to take against the threat of a burglary, there are also other steps you can take to minimize the chance of theft as well as any damage, should one occur.
Locks. All external doors should be securely locked, including tool sheds. A thief may be able to use your own tools to break into your house, such as a ladder left outside.
Lighting. Motion sensing lights are also a good idea, especially at points of entry. Dark areas are not only a potential tripping hazard for you, they’re also a thief’s best friend.
Records. Keep a record of all your valuable items, including serial numbers if applicable. Such a list will not only aid you in assessing the damage should a burglary occur, it will also help expedite the process of reporting stolen items to the police and insurance companies.
