“Perhaps it would be of use to potential customers to know of my HOA's experience with Fulton Services. It was called to evaluate a 4 sewer line that broke beneath a neighboring property. The confined area to be excavated lay between a retaining wall, a neighbors driveway, and two of Georgia Power's poles. The risks and difficulties of the job, as well as the complexity of working on an adjoining property, were assessed by the first company consulted as too great for it to bid. That firm emphasized that an exceptionally experienced plumbing company would be required for undertaking such a task. Fulton was, by a modest amount, the highest of three bidders; nevertheless, it was selected owing to the vast experience of Scotty Wade and the highly thoughtful approach he proposed for minimizing the risks of the job. In fact, his approach to dealing with the retaining wall was precisely the same as recommended to me by a builder of retaining walls. The other two bidders essentially had no idea how to deal with the retaining wall and regarded it as my problem to figure that out. Of the three bidders only Fulton suggested the relatively inexpensive option of installing a sewer popper to ensure that any future stoppage in the same general area of the sewer line would not back into residences. During investigations a century-old manhole was discovered only two feet from the break. When The Department of Watershed Management initially disclaimed ownership, Scotty Wade of Fulton correctly identified the manhole as municipal, not private. Even though it could have cost him the repair job, Scotty suggested we ask the City reinvestigate the ownership of that manhole in hopes that the City might repair the sewer line feeding into its own manhole. After much research, The City finally confirmed that the century-old manhole was its property; however, it pronounced the sewer line serving our townhouses as private and declined to make the repair. While the City was investigating and deliberating, Scotty feared that the sewer could back up again because the first two plumbing companies to visit the site had made only the smallest hole through the dense web of roots that had caused the sewer overflow. Regarding our problem as his own, Scotty volunteered to enlarge the passageway though the roots in order to prevent another blockage until a repair could be made. Fulton proposed that there would only be an extra charge for this emergency work if the City, rather than Fulton, made the repair. Once the City reconfirmed that it would not assume responsibility for our 'private' sewer line, Fulton undertook the repair. Steven of Fulton proved exceptionally deft and careful in operating a backhoe within such a confined area. After the damaged section of pipe had been replaced, the optimal solution would be to replace a short section of terra cotta pipe that connected to the manhole with our own pipe. Because the highly porous terra cotta had been permeated by concrete poured around it, removal of the terra cotta pipe proved vastly more difficult and time consuming than expected. Even so, Fulton did not shift to an easier but less durable solution. It was determined for our sewer line to have the best possible connection to the manhole. Once the link to the manhole was completed, Fulton did not merely dump dirt back into the hole and depart. It stopped frequently to tamp down the dirt. This increased the support that the soil will provide for our retaining wall and reduced the chance of subsidence and erosion after relandscaping. Fulton also cleaned the small amount of soil that had spilled onto our neighbors driveway. In summary, Fulton showed superior understanding of the problems unique to our situation. In undertaking a job that some plumbers considered to challenging and risky, Fulton completed the work for the agreed upon amount and without injury to its men, a retaining wall, driveway or power poles. Its employees (Scotty, Steven, Victor and Christobal) all had many years of experience with Fulton and were a pleasure to work with.”
