“They were terrific!”
“My first experience with Smart Coats was great. They were very professional and finished on time. The second time I had a smaller job, and they never even came. Smart Coats never returned my call.”
“Really great communications from crew chief”

“They are generally very good, I've used them multiple times and will probably use them again.”
“We enjoyed the communication, the quality of the job, and the worker's consideration.”
“They are really good, they do a good job, they are easy to work with, and they are good people.”
“My expectations were set properly and everything worked out well.”
“I think that the sales representative was friendly and pleasant. I would say generally everybody that worked on the project was pleasant. It just didn't come out in the way that we hoped or in the timeframe that we were told. The timing of the project was not well communicated. The hiccups including one of the bathroom walls which was bowed were not communicated. The tub was defective and that was not communicated. The project was not estimated properly. There are scratches on the tile floor, scratches on the tub, and scratches on the vanity. It took way longer than expected. Our cast iron heater was broken at one point. The agreed upon timeline was a week and it lasted 6-8 weeks.”
“Communication was really good. If you had any problems, the person would immediately rectify it. They're not very responsive to emails or phone calls, but this group was very good. They would just fix it when we were pointing it out. They never exceeded the cost they estimated, so that was also very good. Overall, the quality of work was very good. The only problem we had was that he gave us an estimate to finish the work in ten days, but it actually took like four and a half weeks, so that was the only drawback. Other than that, I think the quality of work was very good; I would say they’re an A+.”
“They were really nice guys. They were very professional and did neat work—A+.”
“Smart Coats was excellent. I highly recommend them. They were wonderful.”
“Smart Coats was there when they said they were going to be there. They did their work quickly and cleanly. They did a great job. I would give them an A.”
“They were really professional, they showed up on time, and they did what they said they were going to do. Overall, it was a really good experience. I told them if they needed a reference, I’d be happy to do that. I’d absolutely recommend them highly.”
“They cleaned up really nicely at the end of each day. There were a few spots, and they came back to do some touch ups. They were very friendly about it and did a great job. They’re A+, I'd say. I would definitely recommend them.”
“They were very cooperative, and they did what they said they were going to do. We had a few minor things that had to be taken care of, but they're going to come back for that. I'd say they’re very good—A.”
“They were very efficient and finished the work on time.”
“They were quick, they finished on time, and they did a good job. I would definitely say Smart Coats was an A.”
“I have no complaints.”
“Smart Coats gets a B+.”
“They're very responsive. Even if something was not originally done to satisfaction, they would get right on it fix it, and they are very clean about the work that they do. Essentially, they sort of do what they say they're going to do. They’re a B+.”
“They were patient with me. I should say that I wanted things done, but they were patient with me. They worked with me. I'll give them a B.”
“I'd say the finished coat was too rough. It looks like it should've been sanded because I think they put the paint on too thick. It was a slightly negative experience. They get a D.”
“The problem is, I asked him to do painting for me on the walls outside, and there has been some watermarks. He gave me the estimate and said he was going to do it. When they came, they did the porch, but I did not ask them for the porch. I asked them for the walls, especially the one in the back with the green water stain on the wall. It's still there, and he never came back to do it, but he keeps calling me to pay him. Why should I pay him when whatever I asked for hasn't been done? If I have to give any grade to him, it's all F's because he never performed anything I asked him to do.”
“We actually are still painting my house. I had them do it in two parts. Last year, they did the carpentry and painted one side, and this year they’re going to power wash the rest and paint the other three sides. First of all, I liked that they were willing to do it in two pieces. That was nice. Then, when I found something wrong with the carpentry, they repaired it instantly, no questions asked. They just did it. They were also very thorough in their painting quote, and I just think they did an excellent job. I’d say they deserve an A. That’s a good mark.”
“I've had two projects with Smart Coats, Inc. They completely sanded, refinished, and re-oiled some really extensive exterior mahogany decks and porches last fall. Then, they put another coat on this spring as a separate project. They also painted two interior spaces in the house with a fair amount of sanding and prep work. I thought they did a very nice job. The price was good. They were meticulous, they were on time, and they had as many guys on the job as the job required. It was a special consideration. As I sit and look at these paint jobs over a period of months, I notice little spots, but that's partly my fault for not taking the time to go around carefully before they left. Also, a number of the workers were not English speaking, and I didn't speak their language, so that created some awkwardness, but they usually had someone on-site who could translate it. Overall, I’d give them an A.”
“A good friend of mine recommended them. They did two jobs for me. They painted the outside of my house, and they painted a deck. Plus, they came and fixed the winter storm damage that had leaked into my family room. I liked that they had a person who came and talked to me immediately when I called them. They promised me that there would always be an inspector or supervisor on the job each day. I like what I see, so I’d definitely give them an A+. I'm going to hire them again to do some work for me later on this summer.”
“The team was great, and the work was great. I talked to quite a few of them. They were very conscientious, clean, and easy to deal with, and I liked their attention to detail. If something was missing, they would go back for it, and they never complained if there were any questions. It's a 5,000-square-foot house, so they did the exterior trim and also the mahogany front doors. They cleaned it up and stained it. They also painted the kitchen’s walls and ceiling. We worked back and forth on pricing. Somehow, I had a very positive first impression when I talked to them. We had other guys come in, but Smart Coats, Inc., was very professional when I first met them. They also used good references. I had conditions initially, such as, ‘If you’re late, the deal is off.’ They agreed and said, ‘You're not going to have a problem, and you're not going to regret it.’ I'd call them A-grade.”
“They painted the entire exterior of my home for me. At the end of the day, they were just clean—it was a nice, clean bunch of guys. Even though it was hot, they still worked hard and did their job. They kept me abreast of what was going on and what they were doing. I’d say they're an A-level service. I’d recommend them, and I would have them again.”
“Smart Coats did my complete exterior with three colors of paint. The gentleman was very personable and very well versed, and the crew was very good. They did an excellent job, and I have never had any trouble with the paint. I would give them an A+ rating.”
“They got the job done in a hurry. They found the colors that we wanted. They did it pretty quickly. It was all the exterior. They didn't do remodeling or anything like that for me. I used a similar kind of company before and we were less satisfied. I would recommend them as well. One of the issues that we had which we had with a previous company is that it's really hard to communicate with the people who are working on-site because they tend not to speak English at all and it's definitely not their first language. The other thing I was a little disappointed with is that they sprayed the house which I knew was kind of common but they said they were going to go back and go over it with a brush and I don't really think they did that because the sides of the shingles and between the shingles, you can still see the old color. I think they probably would've resolved things, it was just really hard to communicate with people.”
“They were fine. I don't remember off the top of my head what I don't like about them. They painted parts of the outside of the house. I would recommend them. I would rate them as a B+. They could be a little more clear in the work specified.”
“It wasn't negative. It was just some things where the next year, it wasn't fixed right. They broke my window and didn't fix my window, and it was just—some stuff wasn't done good enough from there, but the painting job was excellent. Fixing the wood and stuff—and I paid that money—it's rotting out already, and the warranty is gone again. They were changing the interior wood on the house, but I don't understand; this is supposed to be lifetime wood that I put on there with that kind of money, and it's already rotting out. It's supposed to be composite, so I'm not getting it. They got an A grade, so I chose them. I'm not satisfied, because I don't understand paying that kind of money and this is what I get—over $10,000 and this is what I get, and it hasn't even been three years yet. They came one time, and you only get a two-year warranty, and after that, it's nothing, but the wood is supposed to be lifetime, so that's what I don't understand. I could've kept what I had instead of going with what they gave me, and it's not composite wood—it can't be rotten like that—so I had a bad experience with them. I'm not going to use them again. I'll give them a C-.”
“Smart Coats, Inc., painted the exterior of our home. It was easy to talk to them. I felt that they made sure that the communication was accurate because a lot of times with contractors, you think you're saying one thing and they think you're saying another thing, and it's incorrect. The estimate that they gave me was very nicely delineated. I knew exactly what I was getting. Something popped up in the middle, and when I spoke to the principal about it, he didn't challenge me. He immediately took care of the problem. I thought the price was very reasonable. I’m a very, very picky person, but the job was excellent. It's been a month or two, and it’s still holding up well. As I move around my house, I don't see any errors that they made. They were very careful about my plants because I had told them that I was very particular and I didn't want my plants to be destroyed. They were also very clean. It was a very good experience all around— A+, I would say. If I want the interior done, I would consider them again.”
“After Smart Coats, Inc., did work for a neighbor who was happy with them, I chose them to do my exterior staining and painting. It was the floor, the trim, and the body of the house. They did good work and had good communication. I liked their neatness. I’d give them an A grade.”
“Smart Coats, Inc., painted half of the exterior of my house. I have stain on the top and clapboards on the bottom. I thought it was a neat job; they cleaned up after themselves. They did excellent work. I went with them again because they had done some work for me prior to this, and I was happy with it. They deserve an A+.”
“They've done a great job, I would use them every time. They resided a barn of mine with hardie board. We have some properties and they renovated them. We've been happy. It was interior. They put new windows. I would give them an A.”
“Smart Coats, Inc. did a good job—there’s nothing they could improve on. They did lots of painting for me, and they did very good. They were quick and efficient, and the workers were great. They were referred to me. I would rate them as an A- overall.”
“They painted six rooms, and it still looks fantastic. They did an excellent job. Overall, it was an A+ experience.”
“Smart Coats did a phenomenal job for us—A++.”
“I had no problems at all. It was good work. I had the trim, the stairs, and the front and back porch painted, and everything was done properly. It was an excellent job.”
“Ed was great, and his crew was great. They were very responsive—that and their timeliness were my favorite things about them. They painted a portion of the exterior of my house, and it was A+ work.”
“They were excellent. They did a lot of work in a courteous manner. It was interior painting and stripping of wallpaper in several rooms, and it took four days. It looked good when they were finished. I’d give the work an A grade.”
“The employees were prompt, the job was clean, and they definitely met all of my expectations for the contracts. They did two coats of paint on our porches and did floors. I chose them partially because of the price and partially because of the professional etiquette of the owner. It's an A+ service.”
“Smart Coats was great. They were wonderful and terrific in every way, and the quality of the work was excellent. The communication was very good; the guy was very responsive. They did all the outside woodwork and trim on my condominium, which involved replacing a lot of wood and painting everything. I have no complaints. They did an A+ job.”
“I highly recommend them. They came in, they did the job in the time they said they were going to do the job, everything went well, and everything came out nice. They brushed and sprayed some paint on our Victorian house, and they replaced all the rotten wood. They did the whole house—I think it took four weeks. I didn't have any bad experiences with them whatsoever. Ed came, they estimated the job, we sat down, we talked about how I wanted it done, and they gave me a proposal. I gave them a down payment, and then I gave them another one a couple of weeks in. When they were done, I gave them the final payment. It was excellent.”
“I liked that the manager always kept me up to date. He always sent me an email the day prior, and if there was a change of plans, he would always keep me posted. That is quite rare for home services like this, so I appreciated that. The painters did a pretty good job. They're pretty fast. It took them a total of a week to get the whole outside of the house done; they had to stop because it was raining. I would say they're an eight out of ten.”
“Smart Coats, Inc., was recommended to us by our insurance broker and did some work for us not too long ago. They did the job like they said they would. In terms of price and quality, it was all as expected, and they're really nice people to work with. They did a little bit more than painting—they repaired some of the damage on the house—and they were very quick to come out and get it taken care of. They earned an A+ from me.”
“They were OK. It was great. The house is peeling already though. I think I'll try somebody different now. That's not a good idea when it's peeling after two and a half years. It was outside, the whole house. It was the outside trim and the outside shingles. I was surprised at the peeling of the paint. I looked around and I thought they were a good company and they are a good company. Maybe it's the wood. It's way up. It could be moisture. I'm not a carpenter or a painter but I know when there's moisture. It's too bad it's peeling. They're a B grade. The peeling is why it isn't an A. I don't know if I would recommend them because I might get in trouble and I don't want to get in trouble.”
