Awning Shapes | Best Pick Reports
The shape of any particular awning should be determined by its purpose and location. While the shapes of some large awnings, such as those covering a patio, will be restricted out of necessity, the shape of a window awning should be determined by its position on the house. A south-facing window, for example, can be completely covered by a small, horizontal awning. If the window faces east or west, however, the awning will need to extend down along the sides to cover most of the window. The type of window that needs to be protected will also influence the type of awning that’s needed. A casement window that opens outward, for example, will require a hip awning that extends out as well as down.
