Texas Best Stain did a wonderful job on our fence staining. They were very mindful of the wet weather we were having and did a great job of keeping me informed of delays and rescheduling. They showed up on time and when they said they would. Our sad old fence looks new again, and the price was very reasonable.

I was quite disappointed in my experience with TBS. When I signed my contract I asked what I need to do to pick my color. I was directed to the website with no other guidance. I chose a color that I though would look good with my house and landscape. I was sent an invoice and paid my deposit. After the crew came and completed the power washing they returned the next day to stain the fence. All seemed well. The crew had to come back a couple of times for clean up and touch up. When they were done we went out to look at the fence and area. We discovered that they only stained the top rail where it was visible from the ground. They did not stain the parts that are horizontal to the ground. They sent the same person back out and he only re-stained the parts that were visible. When he came back he didn't cover the pool, we ended up with stain in our pool and a ring of stain around the entire perimeter, all of the things in the pool such as the float, and the chlorine floater were ruined. There was stain on my pool plumbing, my posts, my patio furniture, my BBQ and probably a few other places I didn't notice. I contacted the project manager via email with the issues. I had to wait for a field supervisor (don't recall his actual title). He tried to tell me that they did in fact stain the top rail, but just needed another coat. We discussed the color and he told me that I picked the wrong type of stain. I wasn't given any guidance on which one to pick! I advised I wanted a different crew to come out to fix the issues. Because this was their error, and I had to rearrange my schedule again, I asked that it be scheduled on a Wednesday. Nope, they scheduled it on a Monday. I was given notice late on Friday and had to scramble to rearrange my calendar at work. They did refund the amount I was charged for them to protect the pool. I went back and pulled the camera footage and the original crew did not power wash or stain the top rail, except where it was visible from the ground. The stain finally looks okay but the process to get there was frustrating. I am not saying don't choose TBS, I am saying be sure to check the work of their crew to ensure that they are completing all of the work that they are contracted to complete. My patio was in disarray for weeks because I didn't want to keep moving the furniture, and I need to replace my patio cushions.

"Bad Points: 2 day job turned into a 5 day job. They failed to take retaining wall into equation for support pole replacement. Sales told me that any damaged boards would be replaced before staining. Found 3 boards after staining that needed to be replaced. Had a large amount of rocks and broken concrete in my lawn that techs said they would not take from property. I expected lawn to be in as close condition as it was before work started. Techs spilled stain on retaining wall and grass by wall. Grass died and still has not recovered. Do not recall seeing any safety glasses or PPE on techs while spraying stain or using jackhammer on concrete. Good Points: They uphold to the quoted price, even with the additional labor needed to remove concrete. Techs did a really good job in staining fence. Looked brand new."

I asked for some estimates from them and asked for some ideas to address an erosion issue on the side of the house. I felt a retaining wall would be needed. They came out an discussed options and showed me some examples. Their quote was within the range of another company I asked as well. We decided to go with Texas Best Stained and they quickly and professionally built the retaining wall. I was surprised at how much effort was put into it and how sturdy they built it. I have had lots of comments from neighbors on how nice it looks."

"Contractor did not discuss pulling a permit and started work without pulling one. City came by and stopped work until permit pulled. Then it was determined that the fence was in the easement. This was all the day before the big February freeze. I was without a fence for 2+ weeks and I have dogs which meant I was walking dogs in near 0 temperatures. I told the contractor that I was paying thousands of dollars for a fence so why would I be upset about paying $250 for a permit. Needless to say, I was not pleased and have certainly learned by lesson about getting the permit before work begins."

"Service was hit/miss due, some due to weather conditions. The salesperson was very responsive and we set up the contract quickly. The power washing went ok, but after that everything got delayed by up to 3 months (March to June) due to the weather. I recognize that the rainy and windy weather we had in the late spring and early summer made it difficult to have a stretch when the fence could dry properly before and after the rains. Communication with the dispatcher was pretty bad, as there were multiple no-shows due to weather, but I didn't get any notification. I believe that there were 3 main times that the fence/garage was worked on. 1. Initial staining - was VERY sloppy. Uneven coats, missed spots, sprayed over the steel hardware on one side of my yard, but didn't do the other half. Didn't get to the 2 garage doors. Was supposed to fix the hardware on the two fences but both were still crooked and didn't close correctly. 2. Second staining - sent a guy in to finish up the job, but there was so much touch-up that he was doing, it was difficult to fix. I had to remind him that the garage doors needed to be stained before he left. 3. Last guy - fixed everything. Was really good about hitting all items that weren't fixed before, including re-installing the hardware on the doors. Took care of all the missed spots and the end result of the fence and the garage doors is great. I'm basing my rating on the END result and I wished that they had sent the 3rd guy in the first place. Even though it took a long time, I am happy with the job and do appreciate that fact that they didn't try to jam the job onto a wet fence or windy day."

"I never hired a fence company before so I didn't know what to expect. They installed the fence post with nails rather than screws and in one day my dogs tore down the fence and broke out so I replaced them with screws myself. If you're going to replace someone's gate make it as wide as the original. The gate is so narrow I can't get my lawnmower thru it. The older gate was a foot wider."

"I DO NOT recommend this company. I was looking forward to doing business with them after reading some reviews and talking to the salesman. Unfortunately, what he told me was not what I got. First of all, neither worker spoke English. One spoke very little (about like I do Spanish) so communication was very difficult. I was told by the salesman the old posts would be dug up but instead, they just cut them off at ground level. I also told him I wanted the fence built so that I could add a gate driveway gate at a later date. I don't see how that is possible they way they built the fence. They also did not clean up very well. I am still picking up bits of concrete and nails. Finally, for some reason, they did not put a swing gate up when they built the fence. I waited for literally a close to a month for them to put the gate up. Every time I called, I was told the office manager was in a meeting and would have to wait for her to call me back. I kept being told some would come out but no one showed. When they finally did, the gate did not match the fence and I told them I wanted it fixed and on the part of the fence that is metal, the post were different heights. Once again, no one came out but the office manager very rudely told me I had to pay the last installment. I told her I would not until I was satisfied. She said I could not do that and I told her I sure could. She was extremely rude at best. She would not give me the name of the owner of the company or let me speak to him. Finally after about another month, a guy named Jorge, I believe, came out. He was very nice and good. He wanted to know why they had not leveled the posts when they installed them. He then evened them out. He also couldn't figure out why the others couldn't figure out how to level the gate. He simply took a section of fencing and cut the width to size and it was fine. All in all, it took close to 3 months to get my fence completed! When I do add a driveway gate, I will definitely use a different company."

"1. The plan was to construct the patio covering without posts and that shingles could be placed over the roof. The workmen started the construction and discovered that a key stud was not in place to continue the construction as planned. Their explanation was "We have never seen construction like this where there was not a stud". They should have discovered that the stud was missing before they started the construction of the roof. The construction was not at the correct pitch so shingles could be applied. 2. The nails are not constant or consistent and they are shiny. They stick out like a sore thumb. The inconsistently placed nails are the first thing some people notice. Workmen came out and tried to correct the problem. They helped but it still looks, to me, like it was a cheap job and the workmen did not care what the cover looks like."

"While the workmanship was good, the customer service left much to be desired. My patio deck was mis-measured to the tune of an additional $2000.00 plus charge above what was quoted. Not enough material was ordered for my patio roof and since they had already removed the old roof, rain poured in over several days and then flooded into my game room. They tried to install an electric gate I did not order across my driveway. I received an email to confirm work was to begin on my pool deck but the type of material referenced was not what I ordered. When I called to be certain they weren't going to make a mistake, customer service became snippy with me and said of course they were going to put in the correct deck materials (I reminded her they were going to install the wrong fence which is why I called about the deck). Later, when the project was not even half way complete, customer service called me wanting the balance of the invoice paid in full. When I refused, I was told that due to all the "back and forth" they wanted to be sure they were going to get their money. I replied that the "back and forth" was due to errors on her company's part not through fault of mine and since the pace of the work was going poorly, I would not pay in full before the work was complete. I did send some more money but not all. I found their customer service to be sorely lacking."

"Texas Best Stain did a great job for me. Price wise, they weren't the cheapest estimate I received, but the quality of materials in their other finished products made them a good value. They communicated well with me and kept all appointments and schedules. Their workman ship has been very reliable so far. We had a retaining wall built and the steel pole structure is holding strong. The only issue I have is that while the wood looks great, I have had to ask them to replace a few panels due to the panel splitting. In further examining the wood, I don't know that it is as high quality as it looks (comes pre-stained). They do have a warranty that replaces panels should they break, so that's a reassuring feature. Overall, my new fence is the best looking fence on the block and we're very satisfied with it."

"The fence looks beautiful and the representative was extremely responsive and timely to my requests for information. The price was in line with other quotes. The install date had to move one day due to weather, but that was noted as a possibility. However, the company could have been more timely in letting us know that they were not coming the day they were scheduled. The thing that was most upsetting was the damage to the sprinklers. They state that they are not responsible for damage, but wires were cut to a zone and sprinkler heads were damaged. This was an unexpected and added expense because we had to pay for someone to come repair it. They could have also done a better job of cleaning up. If we weren't there watching them I'm not sure it would have been picked up as much as it was. Time will tell just how good the fence is."

"The contract calls for #1 grade cedar pickets, but the ones we got are a mixture of #1 and #2, so they are #2 or better. There is a considerable price difference between #1 grade and #2 or better. I raised the concern to the sales who signed the contract but he said they are #1 grade. I asked him where the company bought/sourced the #1 grade cedar, he first points me to a wholesaler and then he said they just recently changed the place where they sourced their product, so the first answer was not correct. I talked to a few experienced fence companies and showed them the picture of the fence, and they all agree these are #2 or better pickets (not #1 grade) since #1 has strict requirements on knot size and knot density. So, I got very mixed feelings regarding the small project. I thought the Good Contractor's List meaning something but I am very disappointed. They should have delivered the product that the contract called for. Because of this, I can't recommend Texas Best Stain to any of my friend."

"I had a gate installed which was not installed properly from Day 1 and the company provided poor service to come back and fix it. They eventually came back after my persistence to look at it. They made a minor adjustment which only lasted a few months. When they were alerted again, they Refused to come back. I would not recommend this company."
