Greenup was founded by Harold and Susan Zick in 1984. Harold continues to play an active role in the company's day-to-day business operations. In May 2016, Greenup acquired the Houston lawn fertilization division of ABC Home & Commercial Services, and Harold and Susan's daughter, Jennifer Manley, joined the company as Operations Manager.
Greenup is a member of the National Association of Landscape Professionals.
