Ventilation

A well-ventilated attic can make a huge difference in the performance and longevity of roofing materials, in addition to reducing the cost of cooling your home. Moving air allows heat to dissipate and moisture to evaporate from the attic area. Allowing either to build up can cause mold and mildew growth, rotting in sheathing and rafters, and overheating of shingles—which not only shortens their lifespan but will void the warranties of most manufactured shingles.

The ridge-and-soffit vent system is one of the best systems available at the least cost.  The system allows cooler air to enter the attic through soffit vents in the eaves. This air is heated in the attic, rises, and exits through the ridge vents at the highest point in the attic.
