Insulation Tips

Proper insulation also plays a large role in roof protection. Insulation, plus a good ventilation system, prevents buildup of the heat and moisture that can lead to buckling shingles and rot in the roof sheathing. Ideally, there should be a layer of insulation on the attic floor to protect the home from heat gain or loss, along with a vapor retarder under the insulation to prevent moisture from rising into the attic space. There should also be a minimum of one inch of space between the insulation and the roof sheathing.
