Wood Fences
Western red cedar and northern white cedar are the most common types
of wood used in fence construction in the Midwest. Cedar is known for
its looks and longevity. Wood is a versatile material for fences, since
it can be stained, painted, or left natural to weather to a gray color.
Wood fences are available in a variety of designs and styles including
picket fences, which are classic wood fences consisting of posts,
horizontal rails, and vertical, spaced pickets that do not touch.
Stockade fences, similar to the picket fence design except that the
vertical boards are placed close together, are also popular.
