Maintaining Your Carpets and Rugs

The Carpet and Rug Institute recommends that you have your carpet deep-cleaned every 12 to 18 months. In between professional visits, however, it’s imperative that you maintain the health of your carpet if you want it to last as long as it can.

Vacuuming. Thoroughly vacuum your carpet once per week. Make sure to go over each area several times, from different directions, to ensure that you’re picking up as much dirt as possible. Also, a high-quality vacuum with the proper filtration, when used diligently, will help improve your home’s air quality, besides preserving your carpet’s beauty and extending its life. If dirt becomes embedded in the fabric, the carpet may reach a point of no return, and even the most skilled technician will be unable to restore its former charm. Vacuuming will not wear out your carpet, but dirt will.
